Description of the role and purpose of the job

  • Senior Tax consultant: International Tax & BEPS Pillar Two
  • The purpose of this role is to provide high-quality technical and advisory support on international tax and BEPS Pillar Two matters for multinational clients. The role will involve analysing complex tax and financial information, performing Globe calculations, researching international tax developments, supporting Pillar Two compliance and implementation projects, and translating technical requirements into practical client solutions.
  • The successful candidate will have an interest in emerging international tax developments and the ability to combine traditional technical skills with data, technology and automation capabilities.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct technical research on complex international tax and Pillar Two including OECD Model Rules, Commentary, Administrative Guidance and local legislation matters.
  • Assist with cross-border tax advisory and structuring projects.
  • Analyse Controlled foreign company, Pillar Two, tax treaty, withholding tax, tax residency and permanent establishment issues.
  • Assist with international tax aspects of restructurings, acquisitions and disposals.
  • Assist with Pillar Two impact assessments including Pillar Two safe harbour calculations, supporting analysis, implementation and compliance engagements.
  • Perform and review components of GloBE calculations, assess application of QDMTT, IIR and UTPR.
  • Monitor Pillar Two developments in South Africa and other relevant jurisdictions and assess their impact on clients.
  • Consider the interaction between international tax, transfer pricing and Pillar Two rules.
  • Prepare technical anlyses, reports, presentations and client deliverables.
  • Being actively involved in training of junior staff and contributing to think tanks.Preparing responses to and liaison with the South African Revenue Service and Authorised Dealers of the South African Reserve Bank. Coach and support junior team members.
  • Supervising the work scheduling and flows for junior team members..Contribute to internal technical training and knowledge sharing.
  • Assist with thought leadership, presentations and technical publications.
  • Keeping up to date with changes to international tax principles and legislation relating to the Income Tax Act, Global Minimum Tax Act and Global Minimum Tax Administration Act.

  • Minimum requirements to apply for the role including qualifications and experience:
  • BCom, LLB or equivalent qualification.
  • Hdip Tax, Honours or MCom in Tax would be advantageous.
  • Approximately 2-5 years experience in a South African international tax consulting environment.
  • Strong analytical and technical research skills.
  • The ideal candidate is a technically strong and curious tax professional who enjoys solving complex problems and wants to build a career at the forefront of international taxation.
  • They should be comfortable working where the answer is not always clear and able to interpret rapidly changing OECD and local rules.
