Our client is a well-established supplier in the steel and building industry. They need a driven Senior Sales Consultant to grow their structural steel and roofing business on large building projects. This is a senior, commission-driven role for a proven closer who already has strong relationships in the industry. Junior applicants will not be considered.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Win and manage large building projects that use structural steel and roofing, such as commercial, industrial, retail and warehouse projects
- Build and maintain relationships with main contractors, steel fabricators, roofing contractors, engineers, architects, quantity surveyors and developers
- Track projects from tender stage through to award and delivery
- Read and interpret drawings and bills of quantities, and prepare accurate quotations
- Negotiate pricing, terms and contracts on high-value orders
- Bring in new business and grow existing key accounts
- Achieve monthly and annual sales targets and margins
- Coordinate with internal sales, estimating, production and logistics to make sure orders are delivered on time
- Follow up on payments and manage account risk
- Report weekly on pipeline, forecasts and market activity
Desired Experience & Qualification
Minimum requirements
- At least 5 years' proven external sales experience in the steel, roofing or building materials industry
- Solid technical knowledge of structural steel and roofing products and systems
- A track record of closing large building projects, with notable, verifiable achievements, such as targets beaten, major projects won and key accounts grown
- An existing network of contractors, fabricators and professionals in the building industry
- Able to read construction drawings and bills of quantities
- Matric (Grade 12)
- A valid South African driver's licence
- Verifiable references
Advantageous
- A tertiary qualification in Sales, Marketing, Business or a building-related field
- Experience with tenders and project-based selling
- Knowledge of SANS steel and roofing standards
- Fluency in English and Afrikaans
Package & Remuneration
Basic R25 000 – R35 000 per month + uncapped commission + company vehicle, fuel card, cell phone and bonuses
