Senior Roads and Highway Engineer

Introduction

This role is suited to a technically strong professional with extensive consulting engineering experience, a passion for innovative engineering solutions, and the ability to lead projects while mentoring and developing junior staff. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality engineering solutions and maintaining strong relationships with clients and project stakeholders.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead and manage roads and highways engineering projects from inception to completion.

• Undertake geometric and drainage design for roads and highways projects.

• Prepare engineering designs using AutoCAD and Civil Designer/Civil 3D software.

• Develop contract documentation and technical specifications.

• Manage project deliverables, budgets, schedules, and resources.

• Provide technical leadership and oversight on projects.

• Prepare and review technical reports, proposals, correspondence, and other project documentation.

• Conduct field investigations, site inspections, and site supervision activities as required.

• Administer and manage contracts in accordance with project requirements.

• Develop innovative and practical engineering solutions to meet client needs.

• Manage project tasks and provide technical guidance to project team members.

• Mentor and develop graduate and junior engineers and technicians.

• Liaise effectively with clients, contractors, authorities, and other stakeholders.

• Travel within South Africa and potentially elsewhere in Africa as required.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications

• BSc Eng. or BEng Degree in Civil Engineering.

• Professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a

• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng.).

• A Master’s Degree in Engineering will be advantageous.

• Valid driver’s license.

Experience

• Minimum of 15 years’ relevant post-graduate experience in roads and highways engineering.

• Extensive experience within a consulting engineering environment.

• Proven experience in roads and highways geometric and drainage design.

• Experience in the preparation of contract documentation and engineering reports.

• Experience in project management and technical leadership.

• Experience in mentoring and developing junior technical staff.

• Experience conducting site inspections and construction supervision.

• Working knowledge of contract administration principles and procedures.
