Job Title: Senior Process Engineer Start Date: 2026-07-28 - 2026-08-27 Vacancy Type: Permanent DUR000441 Sectors: Engineering and Technical Location: Gauteng , Sandton Salary: (medical aid, pension fund, profit share, Market related, Negotiable) Brief: hazop|process engineer|water and wastewater treatment A leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Process Engineer to support the planning, design and delivery of water infrastructure projects in South Africa and selected international markets. Based in Durban, Johannesburg or Cape Town. This role will suit an experienced process engineer with strong technical knowledge of potable water and wastewater treatment systems. You will contribute to feasibility studies, process design, technical investigations, construction support and commissioning while helping to guide engineers at earlier stages of their careers. Detail: As a senior member of the water engineering team, you will develop and review process designs for potable water, wastewater treatment, water reuse and industrial effluent projects. You will provide technical input throughout the project lifecycle, from feasibility and concept development through detailed design, construction and commissioning. The position also includes technical leadership and line-management responsibilities. Key Responsibilities Develop and review process designs for potable water and wastewater treatment facilities. Contribute to water reuse, industrial effluent and advanced treatment projects. Prepare and review mass balances, process flow diagrams and piping and instrumentation diagrams. Develop process data sheets and other technical design documentation. Undertake process modelling, analysis and option assessments. Support hazard and operability studies, risk assessments and the close-out of identified actions. Prepare feasibility studies, technical reports and engineering recommendations. Develop capital and operating cost estimates to support project decisions. Respond to technical queries during design and construction. Provide construction and commissioning support, including site visits when required. Coordinate technical inputs with other engineering disciplines. Support, mentor and manage engineers and early-career professionals. Contribute to the delivery of technically sound, integrated and practical project solutions. Requirements A recognised qualification in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or a closely related discipline, such as: Demonstrated experience in process design engineering within the water sector. Sound knowledge of potable water and wastewater treatment processes and technologies. Experience preparing process calculations, mass balances, process flow diagrams and technical reports. Ability to contribute to feasibility studies, technical investigations and multidisciplinary engineering designs. Experience supporting projects through design, construction or commissioning stages. Strong written and verbal technical communication skills. Professional registration with ECSA or an equivalent recognised professional institution. Consulting engineering experience or experience working closely with engineering consultancies. Experience using process modelling and analysis software such as BioWin, GPS-X or similar. Knowledge of advanced water-treatment and reuse technologies, including: Desalination Potable water reuse Membrane treatment systems Advanced wastewater treatment Experience preparing CAPEX and OPEX estimates.
