Job Description - Senior .NET MAUI Developer (Android Terminal Application)
The role
You'll be one of two developers building a new Android terminal application from the ground up, targeting PAX payment devices in a fuel forecourt environment. The application consolidates fleet card processing, mobile money, cash handling, shift management and attendant management into a single terminal app.
This is a small, senior team working in an AI-assisted development model - Claude and Cursor are core to how we build, not an optional extra. You will be expected to work at a pace that model enables, and to bring the engineering judgement that makes it safe.
Responsibilities
- Design and build the terminal application in .NET MAUI, targeting Android on PAX hardware
- Integrate with payment, fleet and mobile money backends, and with PAX device SDKs (card readers, printers, peripherals)
- Own features end-to-end, from spec conversation through to on-device testing
- Test on physical PAX terminals at the Cape Town offices
- Contribute to architecture and technical direction — this is not a ticket-taking role
Must have
- Strong commercial .NET / C# experience
- Proven .NET MAUI or Xamarin.Forms delivery - real shipped applications, not tutorials
- Android platform experience, including native interop and working with hardware SDKs
- Practical, daily use of AI coding tools (Claude, Cursor, Copilot or similar) with a clear view of where they help and where they don't
- Ability to work independently against loosely defined requirements and move fast without breaking things
- Able to travel to Cape Town for periodic on-site testing
Advantageous
- Payments, POS or terminal application experience (EMV, ISO 8583, PCI)
- PAX, Ingenico, Verifone or similar device SDK experience
- Fuel forecourt or retail automation background
- Offline-first / intermittent connectivity application design
- CI/CD for Android deployment
Who this suits
Someone who is self-driven, comfortable with ambiguity, and enjoys building something new with a small team and short feedback loops. If you need a fully specified backlog to be productive, this isn't the right fit.
