Senior .NET Developer

Introduction

We are seeking an experienced Senior .NET Developer to join a well-established technology and engineering environment based in Centurion.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, enhancement and support of robust backend applications and services. This is a hands-on development role suited to someone with strong experience across the Microsoft development stack, particularly C#, .NET Core, Web API, WCF and SQL Server .

You will work as part of an experienced development team delivering strategic technology projects, maintaining existing systems, introducing new technologies and ensuring that development, testing and coding standards are consistently maintained.

The position also requires someone who is comfortable contributing to technical design decisions, mentoring junior developers and sharing knowledge across development and support teams.

Duties & Responsibilities

Software Development & Strategic Project Delivery

• Design, develop, enhance and maintain backend software applications and services.

• Deliver development projects within agreed timelines and quality standards.

• Contribute to the architecture and technical design of new and existing solutions.

• Translate business and technical requirements into sustainable software solutions.

• Develop scalable, maintainable and high-quality application components.

• Participate throughout the full software development lifecycle.

• Collaborate with developers, technical leads, architects and other stakeholders.

• Assist with modernising existing systems and introducing new technologies where appropriate.

Backend Development

• Develop backend applications and services using C#, .NET Core and associated Microsoft technologies .

• Develop and maintain APIs using Web API .

• Work with existing WCF services and service-based application architectures.

• Develop solutions that integrate with internal and third-party systems.

• Work with complex backend business logic and high-volume transactional environments.

• Contribute towards scalable and high-performance application design.

Database Development

• Work extensively with Microsoft SQL Server .

• Design and maintain relational database structures.

• Develop complex SQL queries.

• Optimise queries and database interactions for performance.

• Troubleshoot database-related application issues.

• Work with stored procedures and existing database structures.

• Exposure to SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) would be advantageous.

Testing & Quality

• Ensure software is developed according to recognised coding and quality standards.

• Participate in software testing and quality assurance activities.

• Identify and resolve defects before deployment.

• Ensure new development does not introduce defects into existing systems.

• Promote reliable, maintainable and testable code.

• Apply sound development principles and clean coding practices.

System Maintenance & Support

• Maintain and support existing business-critical applications.

• Investigate and resolve software defects and technical issues.

• Complete development and support work within agreed timescales.

• Enhance legacy systems while maintaining system stability.

• Assist with the migration and modernisation of applications where required.

• Provide technical assistance to development and support teams.

Development Standards & Engineering Practices

• Follow established development processes, standards and methodologies.

• Maintain high coding standards and sound source-code management practices.

• Apply development principles including:

• Test-Driven Development (TDD)

• Domain-Driven Design (DDD)

• Participate in code reviews.

• Make effective use of development and source-control tools.

• Assist other developers with complex technical challenges.

• Document systems, functionality and enhancements.

• Promote collaboration and knowledge transfer within the team.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Education

A relevant Degree or Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Development or a related field is preferred.

Relevant professional experience may be considered in place of a formal qualification.

Experience

Candidates should have

• A Degree/Diploma together with approximately 6+ years' relevant software development experience , or

• Approximately 8+ years' relevant software development experience without a related qualification.

• A minimum of 5+ years' strong backend development experience .

• Solid experience working on enterprise or business-critical software systems.

• Demonstrable experience developing and maintaining production applications.

What We Are Looking For

This opportunity will suit an experienced backend developer who remains strongly hands-on technically .

The ideal candidate will have recent, demonstrable experience building backend applications using C# and .NET Core , combined with strong SQL Server expertise.

We are particularly interested in developers who have worked on complex production environments and who understand not only how to write software, but how to design solutions that are maintainable, scalable, reliable and aligned with good engineering principles.

Candidates should also be comfortable contributing to technical discussions, solving complex development problems and assisting more junior members of the development team.

Additional Requirements

• Candidates may occasionally be required to work extended hours where agreed and necessary for project or operational requirements.

• The position is based in Centurion .

• Candidates should be comfortable working within a structured development and engineering environment.

Package & Remuneration

Salary: R45,000 – R65,000 CTC per month
