POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior Natural / ADABAS Developer is responsible for developing, maintaining and enhancing NATURAL / ADABAS-based software solutions and business-critical applications.

The role requires a highly experienced developer who can independently evaluate business and technical requirements, conduct technical feasibility studies, perform detailed systems analysis and design, develop, document and implement application solutions.

The Senior Natural / ADABAS Developer will be expected to work independently on complex technical requirements, provide sound technical judgement, identify appropriate solutions and contribute to the continued stability, enhancement and improvement of existing application systems.

Duties & Responsibilities

Job Outputs and Responsibilities

• Provide senior-level maintenance and support of existing NATURAL / ADABAS systems.

• Develop new applications throughout the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

• Evaluate requirements and determine appropriate technical solutions.

• Conduct technical feasibility studies and detailed systems analysis.

• Execute technical investigations and impact assessments.

• Compile technical solutions and action plans.

• Ensure adherence to standards, procedures and methodologies for the development and maintenance of applications.

• Work independently from requirements and technical specifications.

• Design, develop, test, debug and implement application features and changes.

• Design and implement enhancements to existing applications.

• Identify potential technical issues and contribute to proactive resolution.

• Maintain high-quality application code and technical documentation.

• Assist with application support and incident management.

• Provide documentation relating to enhancements and modifications.

• Assist with system integration and implementation.

• Provide user training where necessary.

• Analyse procedures, processes and information flows required for the effective maintenance of systems.

• Ensure system solutions remain aligned with business strategies and information requirements.

• Participate in activities that support the successful use and adoption of systems.

• Contribute to quality assurance and continuous improvement of application solutions.

• Perform standby and maintenance duties as required.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Minimum Experience

• Minimum 8 years relevant software development experience.

• Extensive experience with NATURAL / ADABAS.

• Strong experience with both BATCH and Online processing.

• Experience across all phases of systems development and implementation.

• Proven ability to work independently from requirements and technical specifications.

• Strong experience writing and maintaining technical documentation, instructions and procedure guides.

• Strong knowledge of the NATURAL programming language.

• Proven experience working with NATURALOne.

• Exposure to EntireX.

• Proficiency in developing software using NATURAL / ADABAS development tools in a Linux environment.

• Experience conducting technical investigations, impact analysis and developing technical solutions.

• Experience maintaining, enhancing and supporting enterprise application systems.

Minimum Qualification and Certification

• Relevant tertiary qualification or certification.

• Relevant 3-year diploma or degree in the Information Technology field preferred.

• NATURAL Development Certification.

• NATURALOne Development Certification.

• ITIL and COBIT certification.

Minimum Requirements

• Valid, unendorsed driver's licence.

• Own vehicle.

• Strong understanding of IT governance is essential.

• Understanding of relevant industry knowledge is desirable.

• Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical deliverables.

• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and technical requirements.
