Detail: About the Role This is a senior engineering position responsible for leading the mechanical design of complex process plant equipment from concept through commissioning. You will oversee multidisciplinary engineering projects while providing technical leadership to a team of mechanical engineers and draughtsmen. A key focus of this role is the design and review of pressure vessels, shell-and-tube heat exchangers, piping systems and associated pressure equipment. Applicants without demonstrable experience or significant exposure to pressure vessels and heat exchangers are unlikely to be suitable for this position. Key Responsibilities Lead and mentor a team of Mechanical Engineers and Draughtsmen. Design and review process plant equipment, including: Pressure Vessels Shell & Tube Heat Exchangers Process Piping Systems Storage Vessels Mechanical Plant Equipment Manage projects from concept design through detailed engineering, manufacturing, quality control, installation, commissioning and final handover. Develop and review complex 3D models using Autodesk Inventor and Plant 3D. Interpret and review PFDs, P&IDs, equipment datasheets and process documentation. Perform engineering calculations and solve complex design challenges using industry-standard analysis software. Review fabrication packages for pressure equipment and piping. Prepare piping specifications, valve schedules and mechanical datasheets. Review vendor drawings and equipment documentation. Ensure designs comply with international pressure equipment codes and client specifications. Provide technical guidance throughout the engineering lifecycle while collaborating closely with Process, Civil, Structural, Electrical and EC&I disciplines. Essential Requirements Education BEng Mechanical Engineering Experience Minimum 10 years' mechanical design experience within process plant engineering. Essential: Demonstrable experience in the design, specification, assessment or engineering of pressure vessels and/or shell & tube heat exchangers. Extensive experience with piping systems and mechanical process equipment. Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering projects. Strong knowledge of manufacturing, fabrication and commissioning of process equipment. Highly Desirable Experience Experience using: Autodesk Inventor Plant 3D CAESAR II CAEPIPE PV-Elite Knowledge of: ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code ASME B31.1 / B31.3 SANS 347 EN 13445 EN 13480 Professional registration with ECSA (Pr. Eng) or progress towards registration will be advantageous.
