Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

We are recruiting on behalf of a leading supplier of conveyor and bulk materials handling solutions to the mining and industrial sectors. This is a senior design role focused on the mechanical design and engineering of conveyor systems and associated equipment, with scope to mentor junior engineers and take technical ownership of projects. Duties & Responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design of conveyor systems, structures and associated materials handling equipment

• Perform design calculations including belt, drive, pulley, idler and structural sizing

• Produce and review 3D models, detailed fabrication drawings and GA drawings

• Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, client specifications and safety requirements

• Conduct design reviews and provide technical direction to the drawing office

• Liaise with clients, project managers, manufacturing and site teams throughout project delivery

• Support fabrication, quality and installation queries and resolve technical issues

• Mentor and develop junior design engineers and draughtsmen

• Contribute to product standardisation, cost optimisation and continuous improvement

Experience & Qualifications

• BEng / BSc Mechanical Engineering

• 8+ years' mechanical design experience, with substantial exposure to conveyors or bulk materials handling

• Proven track record designing conveyor systems, transfer chutes and supporting structures

• Strong command of relevant design codes and standards

• Advanced 3D CAD proficiency (SolidWorks, Inventor or similar); FEA exposure advantageous

• Experience with conveyor design software (e.g. Helix, Sidewinder) beneficial

• Professional registration (Pr Eng / Pr Tech Eng) or working towards it advantageous

• Strong leadership, communication and client-facing skills
