Our client is looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with strong product development experience and a proven record of owning projects from concept to release. The role combines hands-on mechanical design leadership with client consulting. You will work with international clients as a trusted technical advisor while also mentoring and developing junior engineers. Duties & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and take full ownership of product development projects end to end, from concept through detailed design, prototyping and release
- Own client consulting engagements, assessing customer design workflows, CAD standards and engineering processes, and recommending improvements
- Develop and review complex CAD models, drawings, BOMs and technical documentation, following design release and revision control processes
- Apply advanced Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to optimise designs for cost, quality and manufacturability
- Present recommendations and run technical demonstrations, workshops and training sessions for client teams
- Build and manage relationships with international clients
- Mentor junior engineers and help build team capability
- Work independently on complex problems while collaborating with multidisciplinary and international teams
Minimum Requirements
- BEng in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering (a Master’s degree is a strong advantage)
- Proven experience in mechanical design, product development and engineering consulting (all three essential)
- A track record of leading and owning design projects from concept to release
- Strong CAD and design software experience
- In-depth understanding of drawings, BOMs, revision control, manufacturing and design release processes
- Proven client consulting experience, with the confidence to engage engineering managers, technical teams and international stakeholders
- Strong problem-solving, communication and project delivery skills
Advantageous
- Experience with international clients across multiple regions and time zones
- Experience with PDM, PLM, ERP or engineering data management systems
- Exposure to FEA, CFD or other simulation tools
- Experience with design automation, templates, workflows or engineering process improvement
Package & Remuneration
R 50000 - R 70000 - Monthly
