Senior Legal Advisor

Activities The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:

• To structure, negotiate and draft or review commercial contracts of a significant value for new or existing business, industry or joint venture matters within the ambit of the law, policies and procedures and management approvals.
• To provide legal advice on how to structure commercial transactions.
• To provide legal advice on issues concerning the operations, finance, strategy or reputation of the company.
• To provide legal support to business projects.
• To ensure compliance with legal policies and procedures.
• To ensure that the company's best interests are protected in litigation matters.
• To manage litigation and commercial legal matters dealt with by external attorneys in South Africa and NE countries.
• To lead the rollout of inhouse training session pertaining to various topics including competition law, environmental law, health and safety law and contract law.
• To provide upskilling to interns on annual basis
• To reduce legal spend and reduce reliance on external attorneys by doing as much of the legal work in-house

Candidate Profile To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

• LLB Degree.
• An admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
• Working knowledge of contract law, drafting and negotiations of various commercial contracts, commercial and regulatory law and litigation.
• 6 years' post articles experience working as an in-house legal adviser or attorney at a medium or large law firm.
• Technical skills: Strong legal advisory skills, contracting drafting and negotiation skills, excellent written and presentation skills, strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Key competencies include adhering to principles and values, analyzing, learning and researching, persuading and influencing, presenting and communicating information, writing and reporting.
• English is the working language.
