Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Senior Lecturer: Provide teaching and learning services as well as a research function.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching and Learning

  • Teaching assigned classes according to the NWU teaching and learning strategies, ensuring required throughput and achieving student-lecturer evaluation scores in accordance with the university's expectations.

Research

  • Research outputs as to be discussed with programme leader and deputy director.

Community Engagement

  • Actively contribute to community engagement projects as part of the School of Accounting Sciences.

Minimum requirements

  • A Master of Commerce in Accountancy or equivalent NQF level 9.
  • A member of SAICA as a CASA.
  • 3 years' experience in the field as an Accountant.
  • 2 years' fulltime teaching experience at a SAICA-endorsed contact institution.

RECOMMENDATION

  • Postgraduate supervision experience at Master's level.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

  • A working knowledge of essential technical competencies required in the field of accountancy including accounting, auditing, management accounting, financial management and taxation.
  • Knowledge of working with students, handling large classes, setting of assessments.
  • Knowledge of the process of research and an eagerness to conduct research.
  • Interest in community service.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office package Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Knowledge of Accounting-related software packages.
  • Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the multilingual environment of the NWU.

REMUNERATION

  • The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
