The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Primarily driving research projects and studies across future work topics
- Lecturing at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level;
- Project management, research strategy, industry and policy engagement, and skills development;
- Academic administration and management;
- Supervising postgraduate students;
- Participation in the Department's strategic initiatives related to teaching, research, community engagement, and fundraising;
- Scientific research and publications in accredited academic journals.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Senio r Lecturer
- A doctorate in ONE of the areas of specialisation listed below or closely related field:
- Biomedical Engineering
- Business Management, Entrepreneurship or Strategy
- Industrial Engineering
- Information Systems
- Industrial Psychology
- At least 2 accredited publications and/or equivalent recognised scholarly outputs accepted and/or published or appropriate industry experience;
- At least 3 years relevant tertiary teaching experience or demonstrated competence of appropriate industry experience or applied research experience;
- Involvement in Master's students or PhD supervision; or equivalent experience mentoring researchers in industry or applied setting;
- Teaching and developing skills development at a higher education institute; and
- Evidence of professional engagement.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES
- Strong capacity for transdisciplinary research, including the ability to work across methodological traditions and disciplinary boundaries;
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with industry, policymakers, and community stakeholders;
- Excellent academic writing and research communication skills;
- Experience working in international or interdisciplinary research teams;
- Sound grasp of the foundational theories and current debates in your area of specialisation;
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to deliver research outputs on time;
- Digital literacy and the ability to integrate technology effectively into research work; and
- Respect for diverse cultural, social, and academic perspectives.
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES
- Experience leading or co-leading externally funded research projects, including successful grant applications.
- A clear trajectory of growth as a scholar in your discipline.
- Editorial or peer-review experience with accredited international journals.
- Established networks with industry, government, or civil society relevant to the future of work.
- Prior experience designing and delivering transdisciplinary or cross-sector research.
REMUNERATION AND APPOINTMENT
- The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
