Senior Java Full Stack Developer (6 Months) (Contract) | Johannesburg/Rosslyn - Hybrid

Introduction

Our client requires an experienced Senior Java Full Stack Developer to join a dynamic delivery team working on innovative digital solutions.

This role demands strong full stack development expertise, modern cloud engineering experience, and a solid understanding of Agile and DevOps delivery practices.

You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise-grade applications while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions.

Location: Hybrid (Remote, Waterfall Campus, Johannesburg, and client site in Rosslyn, Pretoria)

Contract Period: 11 August 2026 – 10 February 2027 (6-month contract)

Work Environment

Hybrid Working Model: Primarily remote with occasional travel to the Waterfall Campus in Johannesburg and a client site in Rosslyn, Pretoria.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Full Stack Development: Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise applications using Java across both front-end and back-end technologies. Deliver robust, scalable, and maintainable software solutions aligned with business requirements.

• Application Development: Build and enhance applications using Spring Framework and/or Quarkus while developing and integrating RESTful APIs and distributed services.

• Cloud & DevOps: Work within Agile and DevOps environments to deliver continuous value. Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and apply Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles using technologies such as GitOps, ArgoCD, and Terraform.

• Monitoring & Observability: Implement monitoring and performance management solutions using tools such as Prometheus and Grafana to ensure application reliability and operational excellence.

• Event-Driven Architecture: Design and develop solutions leveraging event-driven architectures and messaging technologies including Kafka, AMQP, and similar platforms.

• Collaboration: Work closely with business stakeholders, architects, developers, and QA teams throughout the software development lifecycle. Participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Quality & Best Practices: Apply software engineering best practices, ensure code quality through testing and automation, and contribute to secure, scalable, and production-ready application delivery.

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.

• Technical Exposure: Experience developing cloud-native enterprise applications within large-scale enterprise environments.

• Professional Attributes: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

Required Skills & Experience

• Experience: Minimum 6 years' experience in Java Full Stack Development with a proven track record delivering enterprise applications within Agile environments.

• Technical Mastery: Advanced Core Java development skills with strong experience across front-end and back-end technologies.

• Frameworks & Development: Strong experience with Spring Framework and/or Quarkus, RESTful API development, and modern application architecture.

• Cloud & DevOps: Proven experience with CI/CD pipelines, cloud development, Infrastructure as Code (GitOps, ArgoCD, Terraform), and DevOps delivery practices.

• Monitoring & Messaging: Experience using Prometheus, Grafana, and event-driven messaging technologies such as Kafka and AMQP.

• Delivery Models: Experience working within Agile development teams and collaborative, cross-functional environments.
