Start free — we apply for you →Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer to join their Cape Town-based team in a fully onsite position. This opportunity is suited to a technically strong developer with extensive enterprise Java experience and a background in retail Point of Sale solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, prototype and implement Java-based software solutions and extensions.
- Develop and maintain enterprise-grade retail Point of Sale applications.
- Integrate third-party solutions using technologies such as SOAP, REST and iDocs.
- Develop user interfaces using JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS.
- Integrate software with POS hardware such as card terminals, printers and other peripherals.
- Work with SAP retail solutions and integration concepts.
- Produce technical documentation, including UML, technical instructions and project documentation.
- Develop reporting and printing solutions using tools such as JasperReports and iText.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues and implement effective solutions.
- Engage with customers, subcontractors and stakeholders across different levels of an organisation.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and the introduction of appropriate technologies.
Requirements
- 5+ years' experience developing retail Point of Sale solutions, preferably using Java.
- 5+ years' enterprise Java development experience.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Java
- JavaScript
- HTML5
- CSS
- SQL
- Experience with Oracle and/or SQL Server.
- Experience with Spring, JUnit, web services and CI environments.
- Knowledge of software ergonomics or UI design.
- Strong analytical, conceptual and fault-finding abilities.
- Degree in Information Science, IT or a related field.
- Strong business acumen and experience working within large corporate or matrix environments.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
Advantageous
- SAP retail knowledge and experience.
- Strong experience integrating with SAP.
- German language skills.
- Experience with Eclipse, GWT, Jenkins, Nexus or similar development tools.
- Knowledge of JIRA and Confluence.
