Introduction

Our Client is looking for a Senior Operations Engineer to join the core Operations Engineering team within their global IT Hub, driving the strategic Conformity of Production (CoP) and Idea-to-Offer (ItO) quality platform landscape.

This product ecosystem unifies and future-proofs IT applications across the manufacturing value stream to meet serial production quality goals, harmonize data models, manage official regulatory authority reporting, and enable fast adaptation for next-generation vehicle technologies (XEV, autonomous driving, over-the-air customer function flashing).

In this role, you will lead configuration management automation, drive service transition management, implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and actively pursue AI use cases to increase operational quality and team efficiency.

• Configuration Management & Automation: Strong expertise in configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Salt) paired with automation scripting in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.

• IaC, CI/CD & Cloud Operations: Solid hands-on experience provisioning cloud environments (AWS, Azure) using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and automating deployment pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins).

• Transition Management & AI Adoption: Proven track record in IT service transition, major incident root cause analysis, ITIL operational governance, and identifying practical opportunities to implement AI tools to drive team efficiencies.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Environment Standardization & IaC: Lead configuration management and IaC initiatives using Terraform and Ansible to standardize and stabilize production platforms.

• Service Transition Management: Drive transition management activities for new IT services and major releases, ensuring seamless, governed handovers into 24/7 operations.

• Major Incident Leadership: Act as technical escalation point for critical production incidents, conducting in-depth root cause analysis and implementing permanent workarounds.

• Observability & Operational KPIs: Monitor and report operational KPIs via Grafana and Prometheus; implement measures to reduce manual effort through automated runbooks.

• AI Tool Implementation: Actively identify and implement AI tools, technologies, and use cases to increase operational quality, automation, and team delivery speed.

• DevOps Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional feature squads, security leads, and regulated business teams to embed "design for run" principles into application lifecycles.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications & Experience

• IT Degree or equivalent qualification.

• 6 to 10 years of broad IT experience, including 3 to 5 years specifically in IT operations or operations management.

• Proven experience in transition management, with relevant certifications (ITIL Foundation, ITIL Service Transition, or equivalent).

• Experience operating within regulated enterprise environments (automotive or financial services preferred).

Essential Skills & Technologies

Automation & Infrastructure as Code

• Strong expertise in configuration management tools: Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or Salt.

• Scripting and automation proficiency: Python, Bash, and PowerShell.

• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Terraform and AWS CloudFormation.

• CI/CD pipeline engineering: GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, and Jenkins.

Cloud, Observability & Service Governance

• Hands-on operations experience across cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, or equivalent.

• Observability and logging tools: Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK/EFK stacks.

• IT Service Management: Change, Release, and Transition Management; major incident troubleshooting, post-mortem analysis, and ITIL governance frameworks.

Advantageous Skills

• Containerization and orchestration platforms (Docker, Kubernetes).

• Exposure to Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices: error budgets, SLIs, and SLOs.

• Infrastructure security lifecycle management and deployment testing frameworks (e.g., Terratest).

• Familiarity with data pipelines, ML model deployment considerations, and German language skills.

• Experience establishing or participating in Communities of Practice (CoP) or Centres of Excellence.

• Mentorship and coaching experience for junior operations personnel.
