Our client is looking for a Senior Gemstone Developer to design, develop, optimise and maintain complex Gemstone-based applications within an enterprise environment. The role will provide technical leadership, ensure system stability, performance and scalability, and mentor junior developers while contributing to architectural and strategic technology decisions.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test and maintain GemStone/S Smalltalk applications .
- Optimise system performance, stability and scalability .
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues .
- Contribute to system architecture and technical design decisions.
- Conduct code reviews and ensure coding/SDLC standards are followed.
- Collaborate with Business Analysts, Testers, DevOps and Infrastructure teams .
- Provide technical input into solution design, estimation and delivery planning .
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and intermediate developers .
- Act as the GemStone Subject Matter Expert (SME) .
- Support testing, deployment, releases and continuous improvement .
Desired Experience & Qualification
- 8+ years Software development experience.
- 6+ years’ hands-on experience with GemStone/S Smalltalk or similar object-oriented persistent environments.
- Proven experience working on enterprise-scale systems in a production environment .
- Advanced understanding of object-oriented design and design patterns .
- Experience with database design, persistent object stores and performance tuning .
- Strong debugging, profiling and system optimisation skills.
- Experience with version control systems such as Git or SVN.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Experience providing technical guidance or mentorship to other developers.
