Introduction

Lead Technical Finance Excellence

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Finance Manager to join their finance leadership team in Cape Town. This is an exceptional opportunity for a technically strong CA(SA) to lead complex financial reporting, technical accounting, funding, and shared finance functions within a large, listed retail environment.

The successful candidate will provide strategic financial leadership, ensure IFRS compliance, oversee key finance operations, and partner with senior stakeholders to support the organisation's long-term objectives.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Lead all technical accounting matters, including the implementation of new IFRS standards.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of Group and subsidiary annual financial statements.
  • Ensure best-in-class financial reporting, technical accuracy, and IFRS compliance.
  • Prepare accounting policies, disclosure frameworks, and selected financial statement notes.
  • Coordinate and facilitate external audit reviews.
  • Maintain the financial reporting control framework to support CEO/CFO attestation in line with JSE Listing Requirements.
  • Participate in the Group Accounting Forum to oversee accounting policies and financial reporting processes.

Share Schemes

  • Manage all share scheme accounting and reconciliations.
  • Prepare share scheme disclosures for annual financial statements.
  • Produce share scheme reconciliations for tax reporting purposes.
  • Maintain share-based payment accounting systems.
  • Assist with diluted earnings per share calculations.
  • Oversee the accounting for the Group's share scheme trust.

Funding & Treasury

  • Participate in funding negotiations and review funding agreements.
  • Monitor loan covenant compliance and report to lenders.
  • Prepare funding and covenant reports for the Board and Investment Committee.
  • Review treasury-related reconciliations.

Merchandise Imports

  • Lead the finance imports function and provide guidance to the team.
  • Review journals, reconciliations, and monthly trading reports.
  • Approve import clearing agent invoices and payments.
  • Report on foreign exchange exposures.
  • Oversee import VAT and duty compliance.

Accounts Payable & Sundry Debtors

  • Oversee the merchandise accounts payable function.
  • Review reconciliations and complex transactions.
  • Lead the sundry debtors function.
  • Monitor supplier loans, advances, and supplier development funding.
  • Review journals and reconciliations.

Strategic Projects

  • Support and lead strategic finance initiatives and business improvement projects.
  • Partner with senior leadership on projects aligned to the Group's strategic objectives.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Minimum Requirements

  • CA(SA) qualification.
  • Minimum 10 years' post-articles experience within a complex finance environment.
  • Currently operating at Finance Manager level or above within a large listed organisation.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, including IFRS and financial reporting.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing annual financial statements.
  • Strong understanding of financial controls and governance.
  • Proven leadership experience managing multiple finance functions.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver within strict reporting deadlines.

Advantageous

  • Retail or consumer goods industry experience.
  • Experience within a listed company environment.
  • Credit retail experience.
  • Exposure to treasury, funding, and foreign exchange reporting.
