Senior File Transfer Engineer (12-month contract)

Introduction

A leading financial services organisation is looking for an experienced Senior File Transfer Engineer to join their technical environment on a 12-month contract .

The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, administration, optimisation and support of secure enterprise file transfer solutions, with a strong focus on IBM Sterling File Gateway (SFG) .

This is a senior technical role requiring strong Managed File Transfer (MFT) expertise, advanced troubleshooting capabilities and a solid understanding of security, networking, automation and enterprise integration.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement secure, scalable and highly available file transfer solutions using IBM Sterling File Gateway (SFG) .

• Install, configure, maintain and optimise IBM SFG environments.

• Configure and manage trading partners, partner profiles, routing channels, document flows and business processes .

• Manage file transfer protocols including SFTP, AS2, FTP and HTTP .

• Manage certificates, encryption, authentication and access controls.

• Monitor file transfer environments and proactively identify and resolve operational issues.

• Investigate file transfer failures using system logs and diagnostic tools and perform root-cause analysis.

• Lead the resolution of incidents and technical problems relating to file transfer services.

• Integrate SFG with enterprise applications, middleware and other systems using APIs, adapters and scripting.

• Develop and maintain scripts and automation to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention.

• Perform system health checks, capacity planning and performance optimisation.

• Plan and execute patching, upgrades and migrations of IBM SFG environments.

• Support security, audit and regulatory requirements relating to data transfers.

• Maintain technical documentation, operating procedures and troubleshooting guides.

• Collaborate with internal teams, application owners, business stakeholders and external trading partners.

• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and team members.

Strong hands-on experience with

• IBM Sterling File Gateway (SFG)

• Managed File Transfer (MFT) environments

• Trading partner onboarding and configuration

• Routing channels and routing channel templates

• Document flows and business processes

• SFTP, AS2, FTP and HTTP protocols

• Certificate management and secure file exchange

• SFG monitoring, auditing and reporting

• Troubleshooting file transfer failures and integration issues

• Enterprise system integration

• SFG upgrades, patching and migrations

Technical Skills

• IBM Sterling File Gateway / IBM Sterling MFT

• Strong networking and connectivity knowledge

• Firewalls and secure network communication

• Encryption and authentication mechanisms

• SSL/TLS and certificate management

• SFTP / FTP / AS2 / HTTP

• Shell scripting and/or Python

• APIs and enterprise integration

• System monitoring and log analysis

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience as a Senior File Transfer Engineer, MFT Engineer, Sterling Engineer or similar .

• Strong practical experience working with IBM Sterling File Gateway in an enterprise environment.

• Experience within banking, financial services or another highly regulated environment will be advantageous.

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

• Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical issues and initiatives.

• Strong stakeholder communication and collaboration skills.

• Ability to work under pressure in a production environment.

• Strong focus on security, reliability, availability and operational excellence.
