Senior Farmer Facilitator

Duration: Fixed Term Contract (3 years) Reporting to: Site Implementation Manager Location: Zimbabwe Working condition: Field Operations BACKGROUND The Herding for Health (H4H) programme is an integrated, holistic community-driven model that focuses on communal land and pastoralist farming areas within the SADC region. It is defined as: “A community-driven livestock management model for rangelands restoration and livelihoods improvement and biodiversity conservation through herding, capacity building and collective governance”. Peace Parks Foundation has identified several sites for implementing this model, located within Transfrontier Conservation Areas in Southern Africa. The model is centred around four key pillars: Healthy rangelands, Healthy animals, Healthy governance, and Healthy communities. JOB PURPOSE The Senior Farming Facilitator will provide support and report to the Herding for Health Project Implementation Manager as well as the Assistant Implementation Manager in Zimbabwe. The Senior Farmer Facilitator will provide practical and technical support to farmers, with a particular focus on cattle management, animal health and livestock production, while supporting the implementation of the Herding for Health model at community level. The Senior Farmer Facilitator will collaborate with cattle farmers, Government entities, the private sector, and work with and support Grazing Area Committees, Senior Chiefs, Traditional Leaders and Indunas to ensure the successful implementation of the Herding for Health model and the efficient management of all its components. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assist in overseeing the day-to-day operations, including professional and volunteer herder management, and cooperate with and support governing structures such as Grazing Area Committees in the landscape. Provide practical technical support to cattle farmers on cattle husbandry, herd management, animal health, livestock production and improved livestock management practices. Support farmers in identifying and addressing cattle health and management challenges and liaise with Government Veterinary Services and other relevant technical personnel where specialist veterinary intervention is required. Assist in organising community engagements, workshops, and the mobilisation of targeted participants and stakeholders. Assist in providing information and data for compiling progress and monthly site reports, ensuring timely submission. Support the Assistant Implementation Manager in finalising and implementing stewardship agreements, community engagement meetings and workshops. Ensure ongoing compliance with local regulations and policies, including those related to health, environment, and social safeguards.
