Senior Engineering Underwriter

The main purpose of the role: The Underwriter supports organisational goals by assessing and underwriting new business within 12 hours, ensuring profitable premium growth while maintaining acceptable risk levels. This role requires strong technical knowledge, risk assessment expertise, and sound decision-making to evaluate proposals, ensure compliance with guidelines, and support both underwriting and claims processes.

Responsibilities: Operational

• Sound knowledge of all engineering insurance policies. • Actively manage and oversee the start-to-end of each quote request. • Contribute to the growth and profitability of the Company by providing excellent service and maintaining relationships • Manage and organise day-to-day operations by establishing priorities to ensure all quote requests are dealt with and maintain the standards of the underwriting department. Relationship Management

• Liaising professionally with brokers and other insurers
• Work with different people internally and externally to improve service, efficiency, and presentation of information.
• Actively build, improve and maintain relationships with all stakeholders, i.e. internally and externally. Meet with brokers, service providers, partners and other divisions to ensure challenges they may face are addressed.

Requirements

• BSc Civil Engineering degree + 5 years Engineering Insurance Underwriting experience or alternatively 8-10 years relevant experience if no Engineering Degree
• Full FAIS qualification
• Completed Regulatory Representatives exam
• Bilingual - Good communicator (verbal & written)
• Must be a problem solver (able to assimilate large amounts of information and apply policy wording)
• Willing to work late when required
