Our client, a leading global engineering consultancy within the minerals processing sector are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer – Pyrometallurgy to join a high-performing team delivering innovative process engineering solutions across complex, large-scale projects. This role offers exposure to global projects, advanced furnace technologies, and cutting-edge process optimisation within a consulting engineering environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
Process Engineering & Design
- Provide specialist pyrometallurgical process engineering input across multiple projects.
- Develop and review:
o Process Design Basis and Design Criteria
o Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
o Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
o Process, Operation and Control (POC) philosophies
- Conduct phase chemistry analysis, including slag and metal behaviour.
- Support furnace design, operation, start-up, and idling strategies.
Project Delivery
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including:
o Engineers
o Designers
o Project Managers
- Contribute to project execution, timelines, and deliverables.
- Ensure technical outputs meet quality, safety, and client standards.
Technical Leadership & Mentorship
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
- Review and ensure the quality of technical work across the team.
- Contribute to building internal capability within the pyrometallurgy discipline.
Client & Industry Engagement
- Prepare and present technical reports and presentations to clients.
- Engage with stakeholders across global project environments.
- Participate in industry conferences, seminars, and knowledge-sharing platforms.
- Contribute to technical papers and publications where applicable.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and adhere to a strong safety culture in both office and site environments.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant engineering and operational standards.
Desired Experience & Qualification
BSc Engineering in Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering
8 – 15 years’ experience in pyrometallurgy
Proven experience in
Process design
Plant operations and/or consulting engineering
Exposure to furnace operations and design highly advantageous
Technical Skills
Pyrometallurgical processes
Furnace technologies
Slag and metal chemistry
Experience with process modelling tools advantageous
