The Senior Electrician is responsible for performing advanced electrical maintenance, fault diagnosis, repairs, and installations across the facility. The role requires a highly skilled, trade tested electrician with strong millwright type capabilities, hands on technical competence, and the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. The incumbent must ensure safe, compliant, and reliable operation of electrical systems, equipment, motors, panels, industrial controls, and related infrastructure.
Duties & Responsibilities
Electrical & Mechanical
- Electrical fault‑finding, diagnosis, and repair
- Working with motors, starters, contactors, relays, and industrial control systems
- Installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical panels
- PLC knowledge (fault‑finding, basic programming advantageous)
- General mechanical aptitude (millwright‑type skills)
- Basic plumbing repairs and maintenance
- Welding (general)
- General building and facility maintenance
Advantageous Specialised Experience
- Refrigeration systems (fault‑finding and basic repairs)
- Solar systems (installation, maintenance, troubleshooting)
- Generators (operation, maintenance, fault‑finding)
- KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Electrical Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform planned and unplanned electrical maintenance across the facility.
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults quickly and effectively.
- Maintain motors, drives, panels, and industrial control systems.
- Ensure all electrical installations comply with statutory and company safety standards.
General Maintenance
- Conduct mechanical, plumbing, welding, and general maintenance tasks as required.
- Support millwright‑type functions where necessary.
Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to all safety protocols, lock‑out procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct risk assessments and ensure safe working conditions.
- Maintain compliance documentation and participate in audits.
Operational Support
- Respond to breakdowns, callouts, and emergencies.
- Participate in standby rotation.
- Work independently with initiative and sound judgement.
- Collaborate effectively within the maintenance team.
Leadership & Staff Management
- Provide guidance and technical support to maintenance workers and assistants.
- Assist with training, mentoring, and developing junior staff.
- Uphold high standards of workmanship and professionalism.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify risks, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities.
- Recommend and implement proactive maintenance solutions.
- Contribute to reliability, uptime, and operational excellence.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Trade Test: Recognised Electrician Trade Test (Red Seal).
- Experience: Minimum 10 years post‑trade experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Voltage: Competent to work with systems up to 380V.
- Licences: Valid driver’s licence and own reliable transport.
- Availability: Ability to perform callouts, standby, and overtime (overtime compensated with time off in lieu).
- Physical Requirements:
- Medically fit for duty
- Able to work at heights
- Able to work in environments with varying temperatures
