They are currently seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join their team in Cape Town. This role offers the opportunity to take technical ownership of renewable energy evacuation infrastructure, including substations, switching stations, overhead lines and grid connection works, from concept design through to construction, commissioning and handover.
Requirements: · Minimum 10 years’ post-qualification experience in electrical engineering
· Education: BEng/BSc Eng in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent qualification · ECSA registration or eligibility for professional registration · Direct, hands-on experience with 11kV to 132kV substations and overhead lines is essential · Demonstrable knowledge of grid connection requirements, renewable energy evacuation systems and South African grid codes · Sound technical knowledge of protection, earthing, switching and power systems · Experience with Independent Power Producer (IPP) projects, EPCM or consulting engineering environments will be advantageous · Experience with systems above 132kV and power system analysis software will be beneficial
Responsibilities: · Lead the electrical design of energy evacuation systems from 11kV to 132kV, including substations, switchgear, protection and control schemes, and metering
· Develop and review overhead line designs, including conductor and structure selection, clearances and earthing
· Prepare and review single-line diagrams, layouts, protection coordination studies, earthing studies and equipment specifications
· Liaise with utilities, network operators and grid authorities regarding connection requirements, technical approvals and grid code compliance
