Senior Electrical Engineer - Automation (Gauteng)

We are looking for an ECSA-registered Professional (Pr. Eng / Pr. Tech) to join our team in a dual managerial and technical capacity. This role is perfect for a senior engineer who excels at industrial/mining plant design, MCCs, and basic PLC/SCADA architecture, but also possesses strong commercial acumen in cost management, tendering, and client contracts.

Requirements / Qualifications: • BEng Electrical Engineering Degree or equivalent NQF (preference) or BTech/MTech • Pr.Eng/Tech in Electrical Engineering • 10+ years of post-qualification experience spanning hands-on site operations and electrical design infrastructure • Proven proficiency utilizing industry-standard electrical design and simulation software packages • Extensive experience in heavy industrial plant layout and engineering design environments • Solid track record executing engineering designs specifically tailored for mining infrastructure and deep/surface mining operations • Practical knowledge of Motor Control Centre (MCC) topology, layout design, and component specification • Fundamental understanding of industrial automation, including the integration of PLC architectures and SCADA supervisory control systems • Strong equipment and technical product knowledge across medium and low-voltage distribution hardware • Deep operational understanding of SANS standards and regulatory wiring codes (including SANS 10142) • Thorough working knowledge of statutory health and safety frameworks, specifically the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) Responsibilities:

• Lead, review, and execute complex electrical and automation designs, ensuring strict alignment with SANS standards, client specifications, and modern industry best practices • Exercise strict financial oversight over project lifecycles, driving Capex/Opex cost management, variations control, and value engineering to optimize project margins • Oversee workforce planning to ensure optimal utilization of engineering resources, while actively mentoring, coaching, and developing junior engineers and technical staff • Authorize, review, and refine comprehensive technical Scopes of Work and specifications for integration into formal tender documentation • Collaborate closely with clients during contract preparation phases, ensuring technical and commercial deliverables are accurately defined under standard engineering frameworks (e.g., NEC, FIDIC, or GCC) • Supervise on-site testing and commissioning phases, ensuring the compilation of detailed, audit-ready commissioning reports and close-out documentation for client sign-off If you do not receive feedback in 7 days, please consider your application as unsuccessful.
