  • CHEP Sub-Saharan Africa is seeking a senior finance executive to serve as a strategic partner to the Vice President, SSA and the Leadership Team, with accountability for the financial stewardship and performance of a complex, multi-country operation.
  • This role sits at the intersection of finance, operations, strategy and commercial execution. The successful candidate will own the end-to-end financial performance of the South African business and its subsidiaries while helping shape decisions that drive sustainable growth, operational effectiveness, investment returns and cash generation.
  • Leading a team of finance professionals and partnering across every area of the business, you will influence how capital is deployed, how growth opportunities are prioritised, and how risks are managed in an organisation serving thousands of customers across multiple sectors, including FMCG, retail, agriculture and automotive.

The mandate

  • The scale of this role extends well beyond financial reporting.

You will be expected to

  • Share accountability for overall business performance, including profitability, balance sheet strength and cash flow outcomes.
  • Act as the primary strategic finance advisor to the Country Leadership Team, ensuring critical decisions are informed by robust commercial and financial insight.
  • Shape and challenge business strategy through rigorous analysis of growth opportunities, operational performance, customer profitability, capital expenditure and investment priorities.
  • Drive the planning agenda, leading annual budgets, forecasts and long-range plans that align financial ambition with business strategy.
  • Strengthen organisational performance by identifying opportunities to improve returns, productivity, cash generation and cost effectiveness.
  • Ensure a robust governance, risk and control environment that protects shareholder interests while enabling business growth.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing finance function that builds capability, succession strength and organisational resilience.

What success looks like

  • Success in this role will be measured not only by the accuracy of forecasts or the quality of reporting, but by your ability to influence better decisions and create measurable business outcomes.
  • You will bring clarity to complexity, challenge assumptions, help leaders navigate trade-offs and ensure the business is investing resources where they will generate the greatest value.
  • You will be equally comfortable discussing commercial growth opportunities, operational performance, capital investment cases, risk exposure, talent development and long-term strategic priorities.

The profile

  • This opportunity is likely to resonate with finance leaders who have evolved beyond traditional functional leadership and have become trusted advisors to executive teams.

You will bring

  • A recognized professional accounting qualification such as CASA, CPA, ACA or CIMA, supported by a relevant degree.
  • More than 10 years of senior finance leadership experience within complex, multinational or geographically dispersed organisations.
  • Demonstrated success influencing business performance through commercial insight, strategic decision support and effective capital allocation.
  • Experience partnering with executive leadership teams and operating effectively in matrix environments.
  • A track record of improving profitability, cash flow and investment outcomes through disciplined financial leadership.
  • Proven capability in leading teams through change, developing leaders and building high-performance cultures.
  • Strong judgement, resilience and the ability to provide clear direction in environments characterised by competing priorities and complexity.

Why this role matters

  • The successful candidate will help shape the future performance of one of the region's most significant supply chain and asset pooling operations. This is an opportunity to influence enterprise-wide decisions, contribute to long-term value creation and play a meaningful role in guiding the strategic direction of the Sub-Saharan African business.
  • For executives who are motivated by impact, influence and the opportunity to help drive business outcomes at scale, this role offers a seat at the table where those decisions are made.
