SENIOR DEVELOPER - COBOL

Introduction

The main purpose of the successful applicant will be to operate as a senior developer and perform programming activities relating to day-to-day changes as requested by the users. Depending on the project requirements, the successful applicant could be required to perform new development on project related tasks.

• Code, debug, and unit-test programs, including the development of new applications and modifications to existing programs.

• Design and develop simple programs in accordance with defined technical specifications and standards. Prepare and maintain comprehensive system documentation throughout the relevant phases of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including design, programming, testing, and release.

• Provide documentation support to project teams, including the preparation and maintenance of technical documentation, user manuals, and training materials.

• Investigate user requests and incidents to identify and resolve the underlying root causes.

• Perform application maintenance activities in accordance with established application maintenance procedures

• Develop, debug, and unit-test simple to moderately complex programs, including enhancements and modifications to existing systems.

• Perform assigned duties and related activities in accordance with the Client's IT and Operations standards.

• Maintain a detailed understanding of application maintenance processes, system development methodologies, and applicable technical standards.

• Adhere to all relevant organisational policies, procedures, standards, and controls.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Minimum Qualifications

• Matric

• Appropriate tertiary qualification or IT qualification

• Proficient in either AcuCOBOL or Micro Focus Cobol

• Knowledge of FlexGen RADE advantageous

• Have a detailed understanding of Application Maintenance procedures and System Development Life Cycle

• Basic Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint

• A minimum of 8 years recent experience in an application development or application maintenance environment
