Job Title: Senior Design Engineer (Mechanical) Start Date: 2026-07-21 - 2026-08-20 Vacancy Type: Fixed Term Contract NCM003241 Sectors: Mechanical Location: Gauteng , Johannesburg East Salary: (Market related, Negotiable) Brief: An established engineering manufacturer specialising in the design and manufacture of high-pressure hydraulic and mechanical equipment is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing engineering team. This opportunity is suited to an innovative engineer who enjoys taking products from concept through to manufacture and thrives in a technically challenging environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic foundation from a recognised South African engineering faculty with a reputation for producing industry-leading mechanical engineers. Detail: Key Responsibilities Design high-pressure valves, hydraulic power packs and mechanised mining equipment. Develop new products and drive continuous improvement of existing equipment. Manage the complete product lifecycle from concept, detailed design and manufacturing through to testing and field trials. Provide technical support to the production team on engineering-related matters. Attend design reviews and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams. Develop and test prototypes. Review and approve engineering drawings and Bills of Materials. Generate and maintain technical documentation. Support production, procurement and sales with technical queries, part numbering and cost-related information. Liaise with suppliers regarding drawings, manufacturing processes, material selection and quality requirements. Conduct site visits, including underground mining operations, when required. Minimum Requirements BEng Mechanical Engineering is essential (MEng will be advantageous). Extensive experience in mechanical design within a manufacturing, heavy engineering or mining equipment environment. Proven experience designing high-pressure mechanical or hydraulic equipment. Strong understanding of product development and engineering design principles. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience with SolidWorks and/or Enterprise PDM will be advantageous. Exposure to CAD, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is beneficial. Knowledge of pressure vessel, valve and welding standards including ASME, ANSI, BS and EN would be advantageous. Strong analytical and problem-solving ability. Able to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative engineering team. Self-driven, objective-focused and passionate about engineering innovation. Willing to travel to customer sites, including underground mining operations. South African Citizen.
