Senior Design Engineer

Are you an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in industrial refrigeration system design? The ideal candidate will enjoy solving technical challenges, engaging with clients, and mentoring junior team members within a dynamic engineering environment. Duties & Responsibilities

Job Description

• Design and develop industrial refrigeration systems in accordance with industry standards and client requirements

• Conduct site assessments and evaluate existing installations to identify performance improvement opportunities

• Perform heat load calculations and complete detailed system designs

• Generate accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and technical documentation

• Manage supplier engagement and obtain quotations for capital equipment

• Participate in tender and bid processes from initial assessment through submission

• Develop designs with a focus on safety, energy efficiency, performance, and cost optimization

• Provide technical support to project teams throughout project execution

• Attend client and consultant meetings and provide expert engineering recommendations

• Perform system audits and compile technical reports

• Support and mentor junior engineers and designers

• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and remain informed on new technologies and industry developments

Skills & Experience

• Minimum 5 years' experience in industrial refrigeration system design

• Proven experience producing complete refrigeration system designs from concept through implementation

• Strong understanding of heat load calculations, equipment selection, and system integration

• Experience preparing technical documentation, project specifications, and Bills of Materials

• Familiarity with tendering processes and engineering project documentation

• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with clients, suppliers, and project teams

• Highly organised with strong attention to detail

• Ability to manage multiple projects within a deadline-driven environment

• Experience with AutoCAD Plant 3D will be advantageous

Qualification

• BTech or BEng in Mechanical Engineering

• SAQCC Designer Category C certification is essential
