SENIOR DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR | ENTERPRISE ENVIRONMENT

Introduction

Are you a highly experienced Database Administrator with a strong background in SQL Server, high availability, disaster recovery, replication, and database performance optimisation?

We’re looking for a Senior Database Administrator to play a critical role in maintaining, optimising, and modernising enterprise-scale database platforms.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain High Availability (HA) & Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions, including clustering, Availability Groups and replication.

• Develop and manage complex data movement and replication architectures across large database estates.

• Monitor database environments and proactively address performance, stability and reliability issues.

• Perform advanced database performance tuning and query optimisation using execution plans, wait statistics and profiling tools.

• Investigate critical incidents, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement effective remediation.

• Drive database automation using PowerShell, Bash, Python and self-service tooling.

• Support cloud adoption, infrastructure modernisation and optimisation initiatives.

• Ensure database security, compliance and governance, including encryption, auditing and access management.

• Maintain technical documentation, runbooks and operational standards.

• Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior DBAs.

• Participate in critical incident response and after-hours support when required

Desired Experience & Qualification

• 6+ years' progressive experience in Database Administration within enterprise environments.

• Relevant degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related discipline.

• Strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server or similar RDBMS platforms.

• Proven experience with HA, DR and database replication technologies.

• Advanced database performance tuning and query optimisation skills.

• Experience with PowerShell, Bash and/or Python automation and scripting.

• Exposure to modern technologies such as ClickHouse, FoundationDB, LGTM Stack (Loki, Grafana, Tempo, Mimir), Rybbit or Valkey.

• Exposure to cloud platforms and modern infrastructure environments.

• Strong understanding of security, compliance and data governance.

• Excellent problem-solving and critical incident management skills.

• Strong communication skills across technical and business stakeholders.
