A leading South African payment aggregator is seeking a seasoned Senior Data Analyst to take charge of their SQL Server data environment, shaping architecture, driving reporting insights, and championing data quality. This self-directed role blends technical mastery with business impact perfect for someone who thrives on solving complex problems, empowering teams with actionable insights, and elevating data practices across a fast-paced fintech environment. Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Data Architecture & Documentation:

• Analyse and document SQL Server data structures, flows, and relationships.

• Maintain a data dictionary and catalogue for technical and business users.

• Identify gaps, redundancies, and risks in the data model.

• Business Analysis & Reporting:

• Partner with Finance and Operations to translate reporting needs into data solutions.

• Write and optimise SQL queries for extraction, aggregation, and validation.

• Build and improve Excel-based dashboards and reports.

• Perform ad hoc analysis to support decision-making.

• Database Improvement & Data Modelling:

• Propose structural and performance improvements to SQL Server databases.

• Design new normalised data models aligned with business requirements.

• Collaborate with data engineering on schema changes.

• Testing & Quality Assurance:

• Develop and execute test plans for database updates.

• Validate data integrity before and after deployments.

• Contribute to ongoing data quality checks and monitoring routines.

• User Enablement & SQL Support:

• Coach business users in SQL and self-service analytics.

• Act as the first point of contact for Finance and other stakeholders.

• Champion good data practices across the organisation.

Job Experience and Skills Required

• Degree in a quantitative field (Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics or Statistics).

• 8–10 years in a Data Analyst, Business Analyst, or similar role.

• Strong T-SQL skills—complex queries, joins, aggregations, and window functions.

• Hands-on experience with SQL Server.

• Experience documenting data architecture, models, or data dictionaries.

• Skilled in building and maintaining Excel-based dashboards and reports.
