Introduction

Our Client is looking for a Senior Back-End Developer to join the core Software Engineering team within their global IT Hub, driving the "Intelligent & Bidirectional Charging" product domain.

This e-mobility platform manages solar-, cost-, and CO₂-optimized vehicle charging, wallbox IoT connectivity, and Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) / Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) power pool use cases.

In this role, you will lead the design, development, and 24/7 operation of scalable, event-driven Node.js microservices on AWS, connecting smart vehicles to energy partners via OpenAPIs.

This position is tailor-made for an accomplished Senior Back-End Developer or Cloud Engineer who excels at architecting high-throughput serverless applications for connected IoT and smart energy ecosystems.

It is an ideal fit for an engineer who combines strong Node.js and AWS Lambda development with rigorous automated testing practices and a proven ability to lead and mentor team members in a fast-paced DevOps environment.

• Serverless Node.js & AWS Architecture: 5+ years of production experience with Node.js in serverless architectures and 5+ years hands-on with AWS serverless services (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, SQS, SNS, Kinesis, S3).

• Automated Testing & IaC: 5+ years of automated testing (unit tests, end-to-end tests) alongside Infrastructure as Code using CloudFormation (preferred) or Terraform.

• Senior Leadership & Resiliency: Proven experience leading IT teams, managing CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions), and operating production business applications with 24/7 support using CloudWatch.

• Location: Midrand / Menlyn / Rosslyn / Home Office Rotation

• Level: Senior (6-8 Years related experience)

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Serverless Engineering: Architect, build, and operate production-ready Node.js applications and OpenAPIs on AWS Lambda.

• Operational Ownership: Monitor applications in AWS CloudWatch, apply cloud-security patterns, and provide 24/7 operational support.

• IaC & Automation: Design and maintain automated deployment pipelines using CloudFormation/Terraform and GitHub Actions.

• Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead technical deliveries, mentor and coach squad members, and liaise with global customers and external energy vendors.

Location & Relocation

Applicants based outside of Gauteng must be willing to relocate to Midrand/Menlyn/Rosslyn. Please note that relocation to the province will be at the candidate's own cost.

• Relevant IT Degree or equivalent practical experience.

• Minimum of 5+ years of dedicated production Node.js serverless development experience.

• Minimum of 5+ years of automated testing and AWS serverless engineering.

• Cloud Certifications (AWS Developer Associate minimum, Professional preferred).

Essential Skills & Technologies

• Node.js & Serverless: 5+ years Node.js; 5+ years AWS Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, SQS, SNS, Kinesis, S3.

• IaC & CI/CD: CloudFormation (preferred), Terraform, and GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines.

• Testing & Quality: 5+ years automated testing (unit and E2E), design/architecture patterns, and ISO-standard technical documentation.

• Databases & Networking: SQL and NoSQL databases, virtual networks (VPC, on-prem connectivity), and CloudWatch monitoring/log analytics.

• Leadership & Methodologies: Proven experience leading technical teams within Agile/Scrum delivery models.

Advantageous Skills

• Domain knowledge in E-Mobility, smart charging, and energy partner integrations.

• Linear and nonlinear optimization, algorithm design, and complexity theory.

• Performance testing, tuning, and Java development experience.
