Senior Accountant: Manufacturing / FMCG

Meat Traders / Winelands Pork is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to lead the day-to-day financial function for its Cape Town operation. This is a hands-on, site-based role for a commercially minded finance professional who is comfortable working independently in a fast-paced operational environment. You will work closely with Head Office Finance and Operations to deliver accurate financial reporting, strengthen financial controls, and provide reliable management information to support business decision-making.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts, financial analyses, tax calculations and reports for management decision-making.

• Manage the VAT function, including reconciliations, calculations, supporting schedules and submissions through SARS eFiling.

• Prepare audit and independent-review files and liaise with external auditors.

• Maintain accurate fixed-asset registers and oversee general ledger processing and reconciliations.

• Ensure sound financial controls, processes and compliance across the Cape Town operation.

• Lead and support the local finance and administration team.

• Partner with operational managers and Head Office Finance to improve reporting accuracy, processes and financial visibility.

Duties & Responsibilities

Minimum requirements

• BCom Accounting, Financial Accounting or an equivalent qualification.

• Completed articles through SAICA, SAIPA or a similar recognised professional body.

• At least 3–5 years’ post-articles experience in an accounting role with broad financial responsibility.

• Proven experience preparing monthly management accounts, VAT reconciliations and audit support documentation.

• Sound working knowledge of IFRS and South African VAT requirements.

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

• Strong attention to detail, sound judgement and the ability to meet demanding reporting deadlines.

• Ability to work independently while effectively leading and supporting a small team.

Advantageous experience

• Experience in manufacturing, FMCG, agriculture, food production, abattoir or meat-processing environments.

• Experience with Abaserve and/or Xero.

• Exposure to stock, cost accounting, production-related reporting or operational finance.

What we offer

• Salary package of R40,000–R50,000 CTC per month , depending on experience.
