Start free — we apply for you →Job Title: Senior Accountant (CA) Start Date: 2026-07-30 - 2026-08-31 Vacancy Type: Permanent JHB000461 Sectors: Financial Services Location: Gauteng , Benoni Salary: Brief: Senior Accountant (CA) Benoni We are looking for a Senior Accountant for our client in the Insurance sector, East Rand Salary: R900,000 per annum Job Summary The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing accounting processes, reviewing relevant reconciliations to ensure they are completed accurately and within required timelines, and providing guidance and support to staff within the Finance Department. The incumbent will drive the timely completion of month-end reporting deadlines and review and examine financial records to ensure that all financial information is accurate, complete, and up to date. Detail: Key Performance Areas Supervise and Manage the Accounting Department Prepare Accounts Monitor Actual Spending and Balances Audit and Analyse Financial Performance Conduct Financial Audits of Relevant SOPs Team Leadership and Supervision Manage Agreed-Upon Projects Key Tasks Prepare Accounts Perform and review month-end journals, provisions, and accruals. Review, import, and check journals from revenue. Reconcile and review balance sheet accounts. Review and prepare VAT returns. Monitor Actual Spending and Balances Monitor, check, and post subledger batches. Advise on strategies to reduce costs and increase profitability. Audit and Analyse Financial Performance Substantiate financial transactions through auditing supporting documentation. Review and update commentary and supporting details on financial statements. Review and analyse management accounts, explaining significant variances. Supply required information to auditors. Reconcile financial discrepancies through the collection and analysis of accounting information. Conduct Financial Audits of Relevant SOPs Maintain financial statements and records in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Identify and highlight financial and operational risks. Maintain and strengthen accounting controls. Prepare and recommend financial policies and procedures. Respond to accounting procedure-related queries. Review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) where required. Maintain financial security through adherence to internal controls. Recommend process improvements and system enhancements within Sage. Team Leadership and Supervision Lead, supervise, and manage the Accounting Department, ensuring effective workload allocation, adherence to deadlines, and achievement of departmental KPIs. Coordinate daily accounting operations to ensure efficient workflows and high-quality outputs. Monitor and evaluate employee performance, providing regular feedback, coaching, and mentoring. Identify training and development needs and provide ongoing technical support and guidance. Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture by motivating team members, promoting accountability, and effectively managing employee concerns and workplace challenges. Managing Agreed-Upon Projects Complete assigned projects accurately and within agreed timelines. Minimum Requirements Qualifications Matric CA(SA) - Essential Experience Minimum 3 years' experience in Financial Accounting. Sage 300 experience advantageous. Understanding of ERP setup and automation at an introductory level. Methodical and systematic approach to work. Taxation experience. Previous Sage 300 experience. Previous Business Intelligence exposure or training (e.g. BI360). Knowledge and Skills Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Financial reporting skills. High level of numeracy. Strong communication skills. Advanced analytical skills. Strong problem-solving abilities. Sound business acumen. Proficiency in information technology systems.
