Dis-Chem Pharmacies require a Security Controller is responsible for supervising on-site security operations, managing loss prevention processes, overseeing high-risk stock, investigating incidents in real time, and ensuring compliance with company policies and legal standards. CCTV surveillance is monitored off-site therefore, this role focusses on on-site response, coordination and operational control.

Minimum Requirements… Essential:

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Grade B or A accreditation with the PSIRA
  • PSIRA registered
  • A minimum of 2 years’ retail security experience in shopping mall environment.
  • CCTV monitoring and incident reporting. Access control and Loss Prevention. Client liaison and daily operational reporting.
  • Experience with digital security systems. Incident reporting systems (electronic reports, dashboards, case tracking).
  • Knowledge of POPIA (handling CCTV footage and personal data). Courtroom readiness (statement writing, evidence handling etc.)

Advantageous

  • Basic first aid certification. Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act. Operational computer proficiency (incident systems, email, reporting tools)
  • Sound knowledge and experience in operating Hikvision security systems.

Job Specification… Security Control:

• Be vigilant and alert of surroundings to identify suspicious activities according to company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). • Investigate and report signs of damage, tampering or unlawful entry immediately and act in the best interest of protecting company assets. • Liaise with the off-site CCTV monitoring centre regarding suspicious activities, footage requests, incident verification and evidence retrieval. • Respond promptly to alerts or reports received from the off-site CCTV control room. • Professionally receive and assist guests, customers, suppliers and employees. • Protect company property and assets from theft, dishonesty, vandalism or malicious behaviour. • Always remain present and attenuative at the assigned post while on duty. • Report unusual or suspicious behaviour by staff, customers or suppliers. • Conduct and supervise opening and closing procedures with heightened vigilance. • Investigate purchase disputes at the dispensary and front line in real time, coordinating with the off-site monitoring centre when footage review is required. • Monitor and secure Bin 1000 and other designated high-risk areas. • Authority levels (what decisions can be taken independently). Incident escalation protocols Loss Prevention and Stock Control:

• Manage and monitor high-risk and high-value stock. • Investigate stock losses, shrinkage discrepancies and damages. • Oversee ad document authorised write-offs according to company policy. • Implement ad enforce loss prevention policies and best practices. • Develop and apply strategies to minimize financial losses caused by theft, fraud, accidents, injury or vandalism. • Conduct physical security audits and inspections as per company requirements. • Supervise warehouse truck access, offloading processes, ensuring documentation is verified and compliant. • Coordinate with management and off-site monitoring centre when suspicious stock movement is identified. • Shrinkage KPI contribution. Trend analysis and reporting (patterns, repeat incidents). Collaboration with Operations / Admin teams Supervision and Leadership:

• Supervise and manage on-site security guards. • Allocate duties and ensure compliance with security procedures. • Monitor performance and provide guidance or corrective action when required. • Ensure discipline, professionalism and adherence to PSIRA regulations. • Act as a shift leader or site supervisor when required. • Coaching and on‑the‑job training. Shift handover accountability Safety Operations:

• Respond to alarm activations and emergency alerts received from alarm systems or off-site monitoring. • Operate emergency equipment when required. • Assist emergency response teams (e.g. first responders, medical staff, management). • Maintain order during evacuations and at assembly points. • Prevent panic, stampedes, unlawful entry or disorder during emergencies. • Provide ongoing safety advice and ensure compliance with Health and Safety Regulations. • Assist with Fire, evacuation, and medical emergency drills. Post‑incident debriefing. Rapid Response:

• Remain vigilant for any breach of security measures. • Interpret situations quickly and take a decisive on-site action. • Respond promptly and effectively to crises or high-risk incidents. • Manage interactions with shoplifters in a lawful and professional manner. • Coordinate with the South African Police Service (SAPS) when necessary. • Compile case files, preserve evidence and attend to court proceedings as required. • Immediately contact law enforcement during life-threatening situations (e.g. armed robbery or assault), immediately alert management and law enforcement to prevent loss of life or property. • Hostage / armed robbery protocol awareness. Post‑incident support actions (scene preservation, staff support) Administration and Reporting:

• Record accurate notes of daily activities and unusual occurrences. • Maintain occurrence books, registers and audit documentation. • Conduct legal and ethical investigations in line with company SOPs. • Enforce rules and regulations to prevent criminal activity proactively. • Receive and respond to security related communication (calls, texts emails). • Prepare incident reports and submit them to management. • Request and document CCTV footage from the off-site monitoring centre for investigations and disciplinary or legal processes. • Ensure all documentation relating to investigations, audits, stock control and write off’s is accurate and complete. • Turnaround times for reports. Data confidentiality obligations. Audit readiness. General:

  • Adhere to Dis-Chem Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with PSIRA Grade B registration.
  • Comply with Health and Safety rules and regulations.
  • Maintain professional appearance in line with Dis-Chem Uniform and personal appearance policy
