- Supreme Processing has an opportunity available for a Section Supervisor in the Production department. The successful candidate will oversee production activities within an assigned section of the Further Processing Plant, which may include the preparation area, main line operations, or packaging area. The role is responsible for coordinating workflow, supervising employees, monitoring performance, and ensuring that production targets are achieved in line with food safety, quality, health and safety, and company requirements.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 Matric.
- Relevant supervisory or leadership training
- At least 1 to 2 years' experience in a food processing environment
- Understanding of food safety, hygiene, and safe food-handling practices.
- Basic food handling and safety certification will be advantageous.
- Strong leadership, communication, planning, time-management, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
- Ability to pay close attention to detail, manage changing priorities, and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to work in cold production environments and to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive activities for extended periods.
Duties and Responsibilities
Production Supervision and Process Control
- Oversee production activities within the assigned preparation, main line, or packaging section in line with the production schedule and targets.
- Coordinate workflow, allocate staff, monitor line performance, and address bottlenecks to maintain efficient and continuous production.
- Ensure machinery and equipment are correctly set up, operated, checked, and shut down in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Monitor product weights, portion sizes, quality specifications, yields, downtime, waste, and material usage, and escalate deviations promptly.
- Ensure ingredients, products, packaging materials, and finished goods are correctly handled, stored, issued, labelled, scaled, palletised, and rotated according to applicable procedures.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of production, quality, downtime, waste, scaling, traceability, and dispatch records.
Food Safety, Quality, Hygiene and Safety Compliance
- Ensure employees comply with food safety, quality, hygiene, allergen control, cross-contamination prevention, and personal protective equipment requirements.
- Enforce clean-as-you-go practices and maintain orderly, sanitary, and contamination-free work areas throughout the shift.
- Ensure foreign-object checks, product inspections, batch coding, date stamping, packaging integrity, and traceability controls are completed and recorded.
- Monitor compliance with health and safety requirements, including lockout/tagout procedures, and report hazards, incidents, near misses, machine deviations, and building defects.
- Investigate non-conformances and ensure corrective actions are implemented and communicated to the Shift Manager and Quality Control team.
People Supervision and Communication
- Provide clear work instructions, supervise employee performance, and promote cooperation and discipline within the section.
- Monitor attendance, working hours, break schedules, staffing levels, and employee allocation to support operational requirements.
- Ensure employees comply with the company Code of Conduct, Human Resources policies, and all applicable procedures.
- Support the training and familiarisation of new employees and reinforce area-specific production, food safety, quality, and safety requirements.
- Communicate operational performance, risks, shortages, breakdowns, product discrepancies, and unresolved concerns promptly to management and relevant support departments.
General Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with other supervisors, production teams, Quality Control, Maintenance, and management to achieve plant objectives.
- Attend and actively participate in training to remain familiar with requirements across the preparation, main line, and packaging areas.
- Carry out additional reasonable duties allocated by management and work in different zones, sections, departments, or plants when required by operational needs.
