Job Profile: The Mechanical Section Head is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all statutory inspections of steam generators, pressure vessels, and mechanical equipment, as well as all mechanical installation, repair, and maintenance activities within the organization. The role ensures compliance with all applicable statutory regulations, including Approved Inspection Authority (AIA) requirements, relevant mechanical standards, and organizational policies. The Mechanical Section Head supervises a team of mechanical artisans, provides technical leadership,and ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of mechanical equipment and systems across all Necsa facilities. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS 1. INFRASTRUCTURE MAINTENANCE Conduct steam generator and associated equipment inspections and certifications in accordance with the Competent Person – Steam Generators (CP-SG) requirements. Perform pressure vessel and related equipment inspections and certifications in compliance with Competent Person – Pressure Vessels (CP-PV) regulations. Lead, supervise, and coordinate the daily activities of artisans to ensure efficient workflow and productivity. Allocate work assignments based on project priorities, resource availability, and team members' skills and competencies. Ensure all maintenance and engineering activities comply with company policies, procedures, statutory requirements, and health and safety standards. Supervise the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical systems, machinery, and equipment. Conduct inspections, testing, and quality checks on mechanical systems and components to verify functionality, reliability, and safety. Diagnose mechanical faults and implement timely, effective corrective actions to minimize equipment downtime. Plan, coordinate, and oversee mechanical projects from initiation through completion, including budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, and material procurement. Monitor project progress and implement corrective measures to ensure project milestones and deadlines are achieved. Liaise with operations and other departments to ensure the safe and uninterrupted operation of mechanical systems during construction, maintenance, and plant upgrades. Monitor compliance with planned maintenance schedules, including statutory inspections, preventive maintenance, and corrective maintenance activities. Manage the effective utilization of manpower, tools, equipment, and materials to maximize operational efficiency. Control and reduce maintenance work backlog through effective planning, prioritization,and execution of work. Ensure the timely completion and submission of all job cards to the Planning Office for capturing, reporting, cost recovery, and maintenance history updates. 2. SHEQ & REGULATORYCOMPLIANCE Ensure all mechanical work complies with local, AIA, national, and international mechanical codes and safety regulations. Promote a culture of safety within the team, conducting regular safety meetings and training. Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and safety reports. Ensure Team does BBS observations. Ensure Team perform check lists for safety equipment. 3. CUSTOMER SATISFACTION Ensure the provisioning of an effective maintenance services. Communicate with customers Internal and External. Ensure minimum turnaround time for jobs done. Ensure Customer Job Card Rating is done on all defect job cards. Minimise non- conformances on work done. Avoid rework/comebacks. 4. FINANCIAL EXPENDITURE Manage the mechanical department’s budget and ensure cost-effective solutions. Order and manage inventory of necessary mechanical supplies and equipment. Negotiate with vendors and suppliers for equipment, ensuring quality and cost efficiency. 5. HUMAN RESOURCES Train, mentor, and evaluate the performance of team members. Address any disciplinary issues and provide guidance for career development. Foster a positive working environment and encourage teamwork. Monitor the execution of NNR compliance activities and manage risk-related tasks. Serve as an auditee, responding to audit inquiries related to their section, and ensure the section passes the audit without qualifications, including facilitating the timely closure of audit findings. JOB REQUIREMENTS KEY KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS Extensive knowledge and understanding of industrial steam generators, air compressors, pressure vessels and equipment operating under pressure. Knowledge of maintaining and repairing a variety of machines,compressors, generators, pressure vessels, etc. Knowledge and understanding of maintenance principles. Fault-finding abilities and fundamental knowledge of most of mechanical equipment’s failures.
