SAP BW Developer at Datonomy Solutions

We are seeking a SAP BW Developer to join our team based in Cape Town. This is an initial 12-month ongoing contract, onsite.  Be part of building a future fit, centralised Data & Analytics division to support better decision making, scale self-service analytics and unlock commercial value from data.

From translating business requirements and mapping source system data structures for data extractions to creating advanced transformations logic to clean and standardize the data for reporting.

This role delivers scalable data assets that can be used to gain actionable insights by business across the business.

Key Responsibilities

Data Modeling & Development

• Build and enhance BW objects such as:

• InfoObjects, ADSO, Composite Provider, Info Providers, Info Sources (as per architectural standards).

• Implement data flows from source to target using LSA++ methodologies.
• Develop transformations utilizing Standard mapping, formulas, routines (ABAP routines), expert routines.

Data Acquisition & Integration

• Develop and support data loads from:
• SAP ECC / S/4HANA extractors, ODP sources, SLT (where used), flat files, APIs, or non-SAP sources (via DI tools)

• Configure and support:
• DataSources, ODP contexts, delta mechanisms, initialization and re-unit strategies.

• Validate source-to-target mappings and reconcile datasets with business/finance rules.

Enablement

• Create and maintain BW queries (where the team uses BW queries):
• BEx Query Designer / Eclipse query Modeling, restricted/calculated key figures, variables, structures.

• Support connectivity and consumption for:
• SAP Analytics Cloud, Analysis for Office, SAP Business Objects toolset (Webi and Lumira) and Data Services pipeline in Snowflake EDW.

Performance

• Apply performance best practices:
• Pushdown calculations (HANA), efficient transformations, proper ADSO design, minimized data volume.

• Troubleshoot performance issues:
• Slow queries, heavy loads, chain bottlenecks, aggregation/joins.

Documentation & Delivery Discipline

• Produce and maintain:
• Technical specs, unit test evidence and operational SOPs.

• Follow transport and release practices:
• Naming conventions, peer review and regression testing.

Collaboration & Support

• Work closely with:
• BW architect/BW Specialist developer, functional analysts and business stakeholders.

• Provide Level 3 support:
• Batch failure root cause analysis and preventive improvements.

Technical Skills/Experience

Essential

• Good understanding of SAP BW architecture and LSA++ data Modeling methodologies.
• Strong ABAP Programming and AMDP (maintenance and debugging).
• BEx queries performance optimization fundamentals.
• Capable data analysis skills utilizing SQL.

Advantageous

Agile delivery methodologies.

• SAP Analytics Cloud.
• Retail, FMCG, or large-scale transactional data experience .

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in data science, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
• 4+ years’ experience as BW Developer with at least 2 years of SAP BW4Hana.
• SAP Certification beneficial.
