Start free — we apply for you →PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To be responsible for the operational effectiveness of all activities within the salvage yard, with specific focus on reclamation and refurbishment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Grade 12 or NQF equivalent 4 is essential
- Completed serviceman training is essential
- 5 years underground working as a serviceman is essential
- 1 year experience within a salvage yard or similar environment is desirable
COMPETENCIES
- Scrap and material handling knowledge.
- Scrap Classification
- Sound Knowledge of Underground mining equipment
- Good communication skills Fluent in English
- Excellent Excel, MS Word & PowerPoint skills Level 3
- Problem solving skills
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Supervises all salvage and scrap removal activities on site.
- Conducts site inspections and visit critical operational areas to identify salvageable materials and scrap.
- Ensures correct handling, storage, and protection of salvageable items.
- Verifies quantities and types of scrap removed from and received from end‑user sites.
- Ensures weighbridge compliance and the accurate weighing of all materials and containers.
- Maintains accurate records of salvaged materials, scrap, and total waste collected and dispatched.
- Ensures correct disposal of waste and non‑recyclable materials in accordance with regulations.
- Minimises environmental impact during salvage operations.
- Ensures hazardous materials are identified, handled, and disposed of according to legal and site requirements.
- Oversees that garden services are effectively executed.
- Monitors change house cleaning and maintenance activities.
- Responds to deviations from approved procedures and implement corrective actions.
- Compiles and drafts all required operational, compliance, and management reports
- Enforces all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Ensures risk assessments and safe work procedures are implemented
- Conducts toolbox talks and safety briefings with salvage crews.
- Ensures use of correct PPE and tools at all times.
