Sales Representative (External) - Electrical Cable & Wire

Introduction

Rossi Africa is a South African distributor of electrical cable, wire and electrical accessories, supplying the retail hardware market nationally. Our customer base includes national hardware groups and buying houses, together with a broad base of independent hardware retailers. Our head office is based in Waltloo, Pretoria. We are appointing an External Sales Representative to grow and service our hardware retail customer base in [Gauteng / Mpumalanga / Limpopo]. This is a field-based role focused on building long-term relationships with hardware retailers, driving volume across our cable and wire range, and opening new accounts within the territory. The successful candidate will earn a basic salary of R20 000 to R30 000 per month depending on experience, plus a commission structure based on sales performance.

Duties & Responsibilities

- Manage and grow an existing base of hardware retail customers within the assigned territory

- Identify and open new accounts, including independent hardware stores and regional groups

- Conduct regular, planned customer visits according to an agreed call cycle

- Submit accurate call reports on the company template for every customer visited

- Present and promote the full cable, wire and electrical product range, including new lines

- Quote within approved pricing and discount structures, and negotiate within agreed margin parameters

- Monitor stock levels, shelf presence and merchandising at customer level

- Report on competitor pricing, activity and market movement

- Assist with the resolution of customer queries, claims and returns

- Work closely with the Pretoria office on pricing, stock availability and order processing

- Meet or exceed agreed monthly turnover and gross profit targets

Desired Experience & Qualification

- Matric / Grade 12 - Minimum 3 years' external / field sales experience, preferably calling on hardware retail

- Knowledge of electrical cable and wire is highly preferable

- General electrical product knowledge is a strong advantage

- Established relationships within the hardware retail trade in [Gauteng / Mpumalanga / Limpopo] will be an advantage

- Valid Code B driver's licence and own reliable vehicle

- Willing to travel extensively within the territory, including overnight travel where required

- Computer literate – MS Office, particularly Excel and Outlook

- Strong negotiation, relationship-building and closing ability

- Self-managed and disciplined, able to work independently with minimal supervision

- Numerate and comfortable working with pricing, margins and discount structures

Package & Remuneration

- Basic salary of R20 000 to R30 000 per month, depending on experience and existing customer base

- Commission structure based on sales performance and gross profit achieved

- Travelling allowance

- Company-supplied business cards and marketing material
