Job Description

  • A leading provider of specialised technical solutions is seeking an experienced and commercially driven Sales Manager to lead business growth across East and West Africa.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for expanding into new African markets, securing strategic customers and distribution partners, leading a geographically dispersed sales team, and delivering sustainable sales and gross profit growth.
  • This is a hands-on, field-based leadership role requiring extensive travel throughout the assigned African territories.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute sales and market-development strategies across East and West Africa
  • Identify, assess, enter, and develop new African markets, channels, and customer segments
  • Secure new customers, distributors, strategic partners, and routes to market
  • Personally manage opportunities from prospecting and technical engagement through to negotiation, closure, and early-stage account development
  • Achieve regional sales, gross profit, market share, customer growth, and retention targets
  • Lead, coach, develop, and manage the performance of a geographically dispersed technical sales team
  • Build senior-level relationships with key customers and develop strategic account-growth plans
  • Identify cross-selling opportunities and grow the organisation's share of customer spend
  • Prepare and manage regional sales plans, budgets, forecasts, pipelines, and activity priorities
  • Apply value-based selling principles and ensure proposals meet pricing and profitability requirements
  • Monitor market conditions, customer trends, competitor activity, pricing, and emerging opportunities
  • Collaborate with Product, Technical, Marketing, Pricing, Supply Chain, and Logistics teams to deliver customer commitments
  • Maintain accurate CRM records and provide regular reporting on regional performance, risks, opportunities, and market development
  • Resolve significant customer concerns promptly in collaboration with relevant internal stakeholders

Requirements

  • Relevant Bachelor's degree; an Honours degree will be advantageous
  • A BSc in Animal Science or a related technical or commercial field is desirable
  • Demonstrated success in developing business across multiple African countries or territories
  • Proven experience in personally securing new customers and opening new markets
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and hold a geographically dispersed sales team accountable for results
  • Strong commercial understanding of pricing, margins, forecasting, pipeline management, and opportunity prioritisation
  • Excellent business-development, negotiation, and strategic account-management skills
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders from operational to executive level
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, with the capacity to translate market insights into practical growth initiatives
  • Proficiency in CRM systems and Microsoft Office applications
  • Valid passport and the ability to travel extensively
