- Own the mining business development pipeline for South Africa and agreed priority African markets.
- Identify, qualify, pursue and close new revenue opportunities across mining houses, individual operations, contractors, EPCs, OEMs and mining supply-chain partners.
- Develop account-specific value propositions and commercial strategies that address safety, compliance, operational risk, workforce capability and assurance requirements.
- Maintain strong focus on profitable growth, quality of revenue and long-term account value.
Leverage and Expand an Established Mining Network
- Use an existing network of mining decision-makers and influencers to open strategic accounts and accelerate access to opportunities.
- Build relationships across executive, operational, SHEQ/HSE, procurement, HR/L&D, risk, engineering and mine-management stakeholders.
- Establish trusted-advisor relationships with key clients and maintain an active strategic account engagement plan.
Sell Integrated and Consultative Solutions
- Translate client challenges into relevant multi-service solutions rather than selling stand-alone products only.
- Identify cross-selling opportunities across training, inspections, certification, auditing and consulting.
- Work with technical and operational subject-matter experts to develop differentiated proposals, scopes and client solutions.
- Build business cases that demonstrate commercial, risk, compliance and operational value.
Manage Strategic Accounts, Tenders and Commercial Opportunities
- Lead or coordinate major proposals, tenders, presentations, negotiations and commercial submissions.
- Develop opportunity strategies, stakeholder maps, competitor positioning and win plans for priority deals.
- Maintain visibility of pricing, margin, contractual requirements and delivery feasibility before commitments are made.
- Ensure disciplined CRM usage, opportunity-stage governance and accurate sales forecasting.
Develop Mining Business Across Africa
- Identify priority mining markets, commodities, operations and expansion opportunities across Africa.
- Build country and account entry plans using clients, partners, industry associations and existing group relationships where relevant.
- Support development of local delivery models and partnerships required to convert opportunities outside South Africa.
- Travel across South Africa and Africa as required to progress strategic opportunities and client relationships.
Operate Effectively in a Multi-Stakeholder Organisation
- Coordinate across business units, technical teams, operations, finance, marketing, legal/compliance and leadership to progress opportunities from lead to delivery.
- Create clear ownership, actions and timelines for complex opportunities involving multiple internal and external stakeholders.
- Influence without direct authority and maintain momentum in a matrix environment.
- Provide clear commercial feedback to internal teams on client needs, market gaps and service-development opportunities.
Build Market Intelligence and Strategic Insight
- Maintain an active view of mining investment, expansions, projects, commodity activity, procurement changes, regulatory developments and competitor activity.
- Identify white-space opportunities, emerging client needs and new service opportunities relevant to the mining sector.
- Provide regular market and competitor insights to support business planning, marketing and portfolio decisions.
Build Strategic Partnerships and Market Presence
- Develop relationships with mining associations, industry bodies, EPCs, consultants, chambers, OEMs and other ecosystem partners that can create access to opportunities.
- Represent the organisation at priority mining conferences, industry forums, client events and networking opportunities.
- Support targeted mining campaigns and thought-leadership activity together with Marketing.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Relevant tertiary qualification is preferred. Qualifications in Sales, Commercial / Business, Engineering, Mining or a related discipline are advantageous.
- Additional commercial, negotiation, technical sales or mining-related qualifications will be advantageous.
Experience
- Minimum 10 years' experience in sales and/or business development.
- Minimum 10 years' proven experience selling into the mining industry through consulting, direct sales, professional/technical services, solutions sales or a comparable mining-facing commercial environment.
- Demonstrable existing network within the mining sector, with access to relevant decision-makers, influencers and industry stakeholders.
- Proven track record of originating and closing complex B2B opportunities with meaningful commercial value.
- Experience working across South Africa and/or African mining markets is strongly preferred.
- Experience working for, or selling within, a global or multinational organisation is advantageous.
- Experience in consulting, TIC testing, inspection and certification, safety/risk, engineering, mining services, training, professional services or related sectors is advantageous.

- Strong stakeholder management and ability to influence without direct authority.
- Structured pipeline management, forecasting, CRM and account-planning discipline.
- Strong analytical capability and ability to convert market intelligence into actionable growth opportunities.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with technical, operational and support teams.
- High integrity, sound judgement and strong client-service orientation.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills; additional African languages
Other Requirements
- This is a growth-oriented role suited to a commercially driven 'hunter' who is comfortable creating access, opening new accounts and taking ownership of revenue delivery.
- Frequent travel within South Africa and travel into African markets will be required.
- The Business Development Manager may support broader strategic business-development priorities where these are aligned to the organisation's growth objectives.
