Introduction

We are currently recruiting for a dynamic, energetic and strong individual to take overall responsibility for the management of risk, security, occupational health and safety, and facilities across the business. The incumbent will identify, evaluate and analyse security, safety, operational and facilities-related risks inherent to the operations of the business. The successful candidate will formulate, implement, administer and evaluate effective strategies, policies and procedures to manage these risks and ensure that the company’s people, property, stock, equipment and facilities are protected.

The role will also be responsible for the effective management and maintenance of the company’s facilities, ensuring that buildings, infrastructure, equipment, security systems and supporting services are maintained to the required standards, while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and company requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

Risk & Security

  • Effective control and management of security officers and security service providers.
  • Effective management and oversight of all security systems, including CCTV, access control, alarms and related systems.
  • Effective security and loss-prevention control.
  • Responsible for stock loss prevention and the identification of potential areas of loss or exposure.
  • Conduct regular security, risk and operational inspections.
  • Responsible for incident prevention, investigations, reporting and corrective action.
  • Identify, assess and mitigate operational, security, safety and business risks.
  • Maintain appropriate risk registers and ensure identified risks are actively managed.

Occupational Health & Safety

  • Overall responsibility for managing and overseeing Occupational Health and Safety within the workplace.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable OHS legislation, regulations, standards and company policies.
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections and risk assessments.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses and implement preventative and corrective actions.
  • Overall responsible for the effective management of OHS training, awareness programmes, emergency procedures and drills.
  • Ensure appropriate safety documentation, registers and records are maintained.
  • Work closely with management and employees to promote a strong safety culture.

Facilities Management

  • Overall responsibility for the effective management and maintenance of company facilities and infrastructure.
  • Ensure buildings, warehouse facilities, offices, staff areas, parking areas, yards and other physical assets are maintained to an appropriate standard.
  • Develop and manage preventative maintenance programmes for facilities, equipment and infrastructure.
  • Coordinate and manage contractors, service providers and maintenance companies.
  • Obtain and manage quotations for maintenance, repairs and facility-related projects.
  • Monitor facilities-related expenditure and ensure costs are effectively controlled.
  • Ensure all statutory inspections, certificates, licences and compliance requirements are maintained and up to date.
  • Identify facility-related risks and develop appropriate remedial and preventative measures.
  • Assist with facility expansions, renovations, relocations and other capital projects where required.
  • Ensure the workplace remains clean, safe, secure, functional and fit for purpose.

Administration & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records relating to security, incidents, risks, OHS and facilities.
  • Prepare and submit regular management reports and recommendations.
  • Conduct and document daily/weekly/monthly inspections as required.
  • Monitor performance of security, maintenance and other service providers.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate policies, procedures, registers and control measures.
  • Provide management with regular updates on significant risks, incidents, security concerns and facility requirements.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Matric and a relevant qualification in Risk Management, Safety Management, Facilities Management or a related field.
  • PSIRA Grade A (highly beneficial)
  • 5–7 years relevant experience, preferably within a warehouse, distribution, retail, manufacturing or similarly operational environment.
  • 3–5 years management/supervisory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of risk management, security, loss prevention and Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Experience in facilities and contractor management.
  • Experience managing security systems, CCTV, access control and related technology.
  • Strong incident investigation and report-writing skills.
  • Good understanding of OHS legislation and workplace safety requirements.
  • Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, make sound decisions and take ownership of issues.
  • A hands-on approach with the ability to operate effectively in a busy warehouse and operational environment.

Package & Remuneration

Dependent on qualification and experience.
