Job Description

  • The Risk Manager is responsible for assisting management through forward-looking analysis and scenario planning, while establishing, maintaining and continuously enhancing the VKB Group's Enterprise Risk Management ERM framework as an independent governance function.
  • The role provides oversight of strategic, operational, financial, regulatory and emerging risks across the Group, enabling informed decision-making and supporting the achievement of business objectives.
  • The incumbent will drive the integration of scenario planning and risk management practices into strategic planning and operational processes, promote a strong risk-aware culture, and ensure that risk management activities align with governance, regulatory and industry best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Risk Management, Law, or a related field
  • Relevant qualifications in Risk Management or related disciplines
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Enterprise Risk Management, Operational Risk Management, Governance, Risk Advisory, or Financial Risk Management within complex organisations
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, or enhancing Enterprise Risk Management frameworks and risk governance processes
  • At least 3 years' experience in a senior managerial or leadership role
  • Strong interest in financial analysis, business performance, strategic thinking and scenario planning
  • Proven experience with compliance, governance and risk frameworks
  • Ability to interpret data and translate it into meaningful business insights
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Proficient in both Afrikaans and English
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Willingness to travel

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and maintain the VKB Group's Enterprise Risk Management ERM Framework
  • Facilitate the identification, assessment, monitoring and reporting of strategic, operational, financial, compliance and emerging risks across the Group
  • Develop and monitor risk management methodologies, policies, frameworks and reporting standards
  • Coordinate and consolidate enterprise-wide risk registers and risk reporting processes
  • Establish and monitor Key Risk Indicators KRIs, risk appetite statements and risk tolerance levels
  • Ensure alignment with applicable regulatory, compliance and governance requirements
  • Support Executive Management, Risk Committees and the Board through insightful risk reporting and analysis
  • Conduct forward-looking analysis and scenario planning to identify potential risks and opportunities
  • Identify emerging risks, trends and opportunities that may impact the achievement of strategic objectives
  • Promote, embed and continuously strengthen a proactive risk-aware culture throughout the organisation
  • Collaborate with Assurance Services, Compliance, Legal and operational management to ensure a coordinated governance approach while maintaining functional independence
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations for Executive Management, Risk Committees and the Board

Advantageous

  • Membership of or certification through IRMSA or a recognised risk management professional body
  • Scenario planning experience
  • Knowledge of ISO 31000 Risk Management principles
  • Knowledge of King V governance principles
  • Experience presenting risk reports to Executive Management, Risk Committees and Boards
