Start free — we apply for you →Are you passionate about fashion, commercially minded and eager to build your career in the fast-paced world of mass-market fashion?A Johannesburg-based fashion company is looking for an enthusiastic and highly organised Trainee / Junior Fashion Designer to join our team.This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or junior designer who wants hands-on experience across the full fashion product development process — from trends and design concepts through to samples, production and administration.The RoleWorking closely with our design and product team, you will assist with:Researching current and upcoming fashion trends, colours, prints and silhouettesCreating mood boards, trend boards and design conceptsAssisting with garment designs and ranges for the commercial mass marketPreparing basic technical drawings, specifications and product informationAssisting with fabric, trim and colour selectionsManaging and tracking samples and approvalsLiaising with suppliers and following up on outstanding informationMaintaining product files, range information and design documentationCapturing and updating information accurately on spreadsheets and internal systemsGeneral administrative support to the design and product teamHelping ensure deadlines and critical timelines are metWhat We're Looking ForQualification in Fashion Design, Clothing Management or a related fieldGraduate, trainee or junior-level candidates are welcome to applyA genuine interest in commercial and mass-market fashionGood understanding of fashion trends and the ability to translate trends into wearable, saleable productStrong computer skillsComfortable working with Excel/spreadsheets, email and administrative systemsAdobe Illustrator and/or Photoshop skills would be advantageousExcellent attention to detailStrong organisational and time-management skillsConfident communication and follow-up skillsAbility to work accurately and manage multiple tasks and deadlinesImportant: You Need to Enjoy the Admin Too!Fashion design in a commercial environment isn't only about sketching beautiful clothes.A large part of this position involves organisation, spreadsheets, product information, sample tracking, supplier follow-ups, deadlines and attention to detail.We're looking for someone who is equally comfortable being creative and being organised.The Ideal CandidateYou are: Creative.
