RETAIL ASSISTANT

We’re looking for a presentable, energetic and well-spoken Retail Assistant to join our surf & watersports shop in Langebaan.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Customer service — welcome customers, understand what they need and provide friendly, helpful assistance.

• Sales — recommend and sell clothing, wetsuits, surfboards, kitesurfing equipment, accessories and lifestyle products.

• Product knowledge — learn the brands, products and equipment sold in the store.

• Cash & POS duties — process cash and card payments, operate the POS system and assist with daily cash-up procedures.

• Stock management — receive deliveries, unpack and check stock, replenish shelves and keep stock organised.

• Shop presentation — keep the store clean, tidy and presentable throughout the day.

• Visual merchandising — maintain product displays, clothing racks, shelves and window displays.

• Customer queries — assist with product questions, returns, exchanges and general customer enquiries.

• Stock control — help with stock counts and report missing, damaged or low-stock items.

• Store maintenance — ensure products and equipment are correctly displayed and the shop floor remains organised.

• Teamwork — work closely with the Retail Manager and other staff to achieve sales and customer-service goals.

• Opening & closing — assist with opening and closing procedures when required.

• Promotions — assist with sales promotions, new product launches and store events.

• Lifestyle representation — represent Kite Lab professionally and contribute to the surf, kitesurfing and outdoor lifestyle culture.

Desired Experience & Qualification

• Matric / High School Diploma required

• College, tertiary or relevant post-school qualification advantageous

• Previous retail or customer-service experience advantageous

• English as a first language, or excellent spoken English, is essential.

• Basic mathematics and cash-handling ability

• Basic computer literacy

• Presentable, reliable and customer-focused

• Knowledge of surf, kitesurfing and lifestyle brands advantageous

• Must be willing to work weekends, public holidays and during busy seasonal periods

Package & Remuneration

• Contract period: 7 months

• Basic salary: R10,000 per month

• Performance-based bonus: Additional performance incentive based on individual and store sales performance

• Potential for permanent employment: Opportunity for permanent employment following successful completion of the 7-month contract and based on performance and business requirements.

• Working hours: Includes weekends, public holidays and busy seasonal periods as required.
