The main purpose is to provide support to all South African sites around the subjects of geology, mining, and permitting; ensuring that the mines have an adequate supply of ore for the future and a well-developed economical approach to extract the reserves efficiently. The main objectives include managing the mineral resources and reserves, mid to long term mine planning and scheduling and environmental compliance. Overall this role is focussed around the mid to long term and ensuring the continuity of operations in the future.
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Resource Modelling Annual LOM planning and BMR updates for all sites.
2. Permitting Management (MR and MP applications and Renewals, section 102 amendments)
3. Annual update of 5-year strategy (Ore Scheduling plan, Exploration plan, and OB Mining strategy).
4. Environmental Compliance (Financial provision and liability assessments, NAEIS and GHG annual reporting).
5. Capex projects (Various).
6. Exploration campaign management and planning.
7. Green / Brown field exploration and prospects for new deposits.
8. Data processing, compilation, validation on Leap Frog and Surpac
9. Mining Contractor Management.
10. Quarterly reconciliations for all mines on Leapfrog and Surpac
11. Drilling campaign QA/QC implementation.
12. All applications and interactions with the Government authorities namely: the DMRE (Department of Minerals, resources, and energy), DWS (Department of Water and Sanitation), LEDET (Department of Environment, Conservation and Tourism), SAHRA (South African Heritage Resources Agency).
13. Support M&A projects in IMERYS RAC perimeter.
14. Plan exploration programs, select contractors and supervise the execution of the planned activities and implementation of IMERYS safety regulations.
15. Lead a team of Geologists and technicians for exploration and mine geology related tasks.
Desired Experience & Qualification
1. BSc degree (Honours) in geology.
2. Minimum of 15 years in a Geology role, ideally supporting open pit mining operation and field exploration services
3. Pre Requisite: Advance level with modelling software in Leapfrog and SURPAC.
4. SACNASP registered scientist.
5. Concise & effective communication style with internal and external stakeholders.
6. Surpac and leapfrog open pit modelling experience
7. Demonstrated high proficiency of Google Sheets or similar MS Excel.
8. Working knowledge of GIS, survey software and geostatistics.
9. Proven ability to learn and effectively use Leapfrog or related geologic modelling software.
10. Proven ability to establish positive relationships with existing workforce and team environments.
11. Proven ability to dissect rock quality and testing methods.
12.Demonstrated ability to establish relationships and facilitate work through peers, superiors, and subordinates.
13. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities with different timelines.
14. Proficient and effective verbal, and written communication and technical writing skills.
15.Field work requirements: able to work in a hot environment, prolonged exploration activities when required.
16. Multi-mineral experience with focus on the industrial mineral, experience with clay, bentonite and andalusite deposits will be considered an advantage
17. Able to travel to multiple locations around South Africa.
