Resident Engineer

SANRAL Project | North Coast, KwaZulu-Natal Initial Two-Year Contract | Start as Soon as Possible

A well-established consulting engineering firm is seeking an experienced Resident Engineer to lead the site supervision and contract administration of a major SANRAL bridge project on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast.

This senior, site-based position requires a professionally registered Civil Engineer with strong experience in bridge and structural construction. The successful candidate will take responsibility for the technical quality, contractual compliance and effective delivery of the works. Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the day-to-day supervision and contract administration of the project.

• Oversee bridge and structural works, including foundations, reinforced concrete, structural components and associated civil works.

• Review construction drawings, specifications, method statements and technical submissions.

• Monitor workmanship and ensure compliance with approved designs, SANRAL requirements and relevant quality standards.

• Manage and coordinate site personnel, inspectors, trainees and specialist subconsultants.

• Liaise closely with the Contracts Engineer, contractor, client representatives and other project stakeholders.

• Chair and contribute to site, technical and progress meetings.

• Monitor the construction programme, progress, costs and potential project risks.

• Prepare monthly progress reports, payment certificates and the required contractual documentation.

• Maintain accurate site records, correspondence, instructions and daily diaries.

• Monitor health and safety, environmental and community-related compliance.

• Assist with the resolution of technical and contractual issues arising during construction.

• Oversee as-built information, completion inspections and project close-out documentation.

Requirements

• BSc or BEng degree in Civil Engineering.

• Professional registration with ECSA as a Pr Eng .

• Approximately 10 or more years of relevant civil engineering and construction supervision experience.

• Previous experience as a Resident Engineer or in a similarly senior site-based position.

• Strong experience in bridge, structural concrete or major civil structures construction.

• Previous experience working on SANRAL projects is strongly preferred.

• Sound knowledge of SANRAL procedures, COTO specifications and relevant construction contracts.

• Proven ability to manage contractors, site teams, quality, progress and contractual documentation.

• Computer literacy, including MS Office, MS Teams and MS Project.

This is an excellent opportunity to take a leading role on a significant SANRAL bridge project. The initial contract period is two years, with the possibility of extension depending on the duration and requirements of the project. Package & Remuneration
