- The Drug Discovery and Development Centre H3D at the University of Cape Town is seeking a Research Scientist in AMR biology for a laboratory-based position, where the primary role will be determining the in vitro efficacy of novel compounds against Gram-negative bacteria in support for H3D AMR drug discovery programs.
- The Research Scientist will report to a Senior Investigator in the AMR biology group.
Requirements
- A minimum of a BSc Hons. degree with relevant laboratory experience in microbiology.
- Minimum 1-year hands-on experience in working with and manipulating Gram-negative bacteria A. baumannii, K. pneumoniae and others for a year or more is essential as demonstrated through work experience.
- Good knowledge of bacterial culturing and in vitro assessment of compound efficacy techniques.
- Experience of working in a drug discovery group is an advantage.
Responsibilities
- Independently run routine in vitro microbiology compound efficacy experiments within a team setting.
- Be proficient in the determination of compound minimum bactericidal concentrations MBCs, time-kill kinetic TKK and frequency of resistance FoR.
- As well as bacterial strain characterization via determination of growth kinetics and antibiotic resistance profiling.
- Good knowledge of general Laboratory Health and Safety.
