We are seeking a Research and Development Polymer Chemist to join our team in JHB - Eastern Suburbs. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and developing SMC formulations tailored to specific product categories, such as manholes & sectional water tanks, electrical enclosures, automotive class A components, and railway fire-retardant components. Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and develop SMC formulations for various product categories
- Select and evaluate raw materials including resins, additives, fillers, and reinforcement systems
- Conduct lab-scale trials and pilot batch runs
- Optimize paste viscosity and molding characteristics
- Coordinate with production teams for scale-up and process validation
- Test and validate formulations for mechanical, fire, and electrical properties
- Troubleshoot production issues related to formulations
- Maintain formulation documentation and ensure compliance with industry standards
- Stay updated on new raw materials and emerging technologies
- Support customer queries and new product development projects
Requirements
Sectors: Chemical/Composites/Polymers Functions: Design and Develop Qualification Types: Under Graduate Degrees, Post Graduate Degrees Education: B.Sc/M.Sc in Chemistry, or B.Tech/M.Tech in Polymer/Chemical Engineering, or equivalent Experience: Minimum of 3 years in SMC/BMC/composite formulation development (range adjustable by seniority level)
